How many times have you passed by those garden and tool sheds that always sit in the parking lot of your local hardware store? Me, maybe a thousand. On occasion I’ve thought that these sheds would make a fun a playhouse for kids or a unique man cave, but it wasn’t until I saw the transformation of Kristen’s gardem shed and her outdoor space that I began to think about garden sheds in a new way.
When you boil it down, a garden shed is alot like a miniature house just without any interior structure. Many times you can find these garden sheds crafted of unique wood, metal and some even have shingles which give it a cape cod feel. And because garden shed structures are simple in design they are easy to add-on to or enhance with paint.
The addition of a pergola turns this small garden shed into a custom backyard cottage perfect for an office or just relaxing.
Replacing a lift up garage-style door with french doors gives this shed the feel of a home. When the double doors are open the shed becomes part of the yard and when closed it serves as a quaint retreat.
I love the extended porch and cut-out window on this garden shed. The design creates a perfect spot of grilling and preparing and serving food.
This green house style shed is such a fun idea for a back-yard oasis. The windows allow you to enjoy the space day and night and would even make a fun campsite for the kids.
Even when space is limited, a small garden shed can still become a special place outdoors. The design of this shed really comes to life because of all the windows and the copper roof.
The owners of this shed created a really beautiful space by using details that are usually found on a traditional home–casings, arched door, shutters and shingles.
UpStyling a garden shed is such a great idea and a wonderful way to create a space that can be used year-round, in all types of weather.
I’m a convert…how about you?
p.s. did you see the finale of American Dream Builders? If so, did you love or hate Lukas’ black beach house?
