Why Roses?

Every year either my hubby or my brother sends me flowers for Valentines.  And in most cases, the arrangement is centered around roses.  And, every year, I find myself asking , “why roses?”

Is it because roses are the traditional Valentine’s flower, or perhaps because every florist in America pushes roses for the big day, and over charges for them while they are at it.  Or, maybe it’s because a lot of men think that roses are the Cadillac of flowers, so why not?

Well, let me tell you when it comes to flowers there are so many other incredible stem options to choose from.  Flower varieties that have so much more style and flair!

Here are a few arrangements I hope will land at my doorstep this Valentines.  (I hope you reading this Geno, the husband & Dwight, the brother).

Hydrangea are my favorite flower and I love the mix of white and blue in this arrangement.

I am all for a non-traditional color theme when it comes to flowers.  I love the deep, rich tones used in this arrangement. And, I also love the low profile vase that is just waiting to become a beautiful candleholder once the flowers are gone.

How stunning are these cabbage rose arrangements?  Cabbage Roses (my second favorite flower) are a great alternative to traditional roses, and are much more full and luscious.

Orchids mixed with anything are beautiful!

I’m typically not a purple girl but I love, love, love this arrangement.

Every now and then the hubby hits the nail on the head.  On our 10th anniversary, he sent me an arrangement of nothing but sunflowers ( my third favorite flower) in a cobalt blue vase.  It was so beautiful and stands out in my mind even now, 10 years later.

So, if you’re giving Valentine’s flowers to someone this year, look beyond the rose and give an arrangement that will really stand out.

Do you have a favorite flower you’d love to get this Valentines?
