Vintage Finds From Everything But The House

EBTH--Vintage Bamboo4

Last Friday I told you about Everything But The House (EBTH), a revolutionary way to shop for vintage and antique items online.  After getting to know how the auction system works and how easy it is to place bids on EBTH, I decided to give it a try.

Everything But The House

One of the first things I purchased was this bamboo and wicker end table.  The table is manufactured by Emerald Craft Inc., was in really good shape and has classic bamboo furniture details.

The only thing I didn’t like about the piece was the color but I knew a couple of coats of spray paint would give the table a new personality.

So here’s the new look after a couple of coats of gloss black spray paint.

I’m so happy with the piece and how it looks now.  The size of the table is ideal for a corner or nook and works great as a spot to drop keys near the door.  I also like the three shelf surfaces which provide lots of decorating options.

A smaller brass tray {thrifted} fit perfectly on the middle shelf and works great for extra storage.  And of course you know I love the combination of black and brass.

I placed a stack of books on the lower shelf along with a blue and white ginger jar.  This beautiful Asian ginger jar is another piece I scored from EBTH.

New sales start everyday on EBTH so have fun bidding and I let me know if you win something awesome.

New To The Shop & The Vintage Box

IMG_0440

Good Morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend.

I was a busy beaver but did manage a little time outdoors enjoying the weather.  One of the big task on my to-do list was adding new items to the ConfettiStyle Etsy Shop.  I added over 50 new vintage decor and jewelry items and still have more to add, including some vintage holiday pieces.

If you’ve never been to my Etsy shop and are wondering what types of items I sell, let me tell you about the shop.  I opened my Etsy shop a few years ago and really focused on selling pieces that I loved and would decorate my own home with.  I am an avid flea market shopper and the shop was a great way for me to make some of what I find available to you.  There are several different categories of items in the shop but you’ll find milk glass and ironstone pieces, brass decor and lots of unique vintage items. Back in 2012 I started making vintage jewelry and add my handcrafted jewelry to the shop.  2012 was also the year when my jewelry was selected as an editors’ pick by Country Living Magazine and was featured in the Dec/Jan 2012 issue.

Over the years I’ve added additional handcrafted pieces including designer clipboards which have been very popular.  I have a new collection of clipboards that will be available in the shop soon.

So all in all, my Etsy shop is an extension of my passion for vintage decor, jewelry and my love of handcrafting!  Here’s a sneak peek at some of the items you’ll find in the shop…

And in case you missed it, I’ve decided to expand my shop presence and begin selling vintage finds on Instagram in a new shop called The Vintage Box.  This has been something I’ve thought about for almost a year and I’m excited to launch the shop later this month.

The Instagram shop will have a more focused product offering and I’ll also be selling vintage jewelry as well.  I’m still nailing down the details of the sales so follow along here to be the first to know when the shop opens.

You never know what treasures are in the box!

Girlfriend Gifts

Feeling Groovy Trinket Tray

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had already begun doing some Christmas shopping.  I hate to wait until the last minute when the items have been picked over and store shelves are bare.  One category of gifts that I tend to buy early is girlfriend gifts.

Finding that special gift for a girlfriend can sometimes be challenging so my method for selecting the perfect gift is to tap into that persons style.  Think about the colors the person wears, the items they decorate their home with and their passions in life.  When you look for gifts that connect to a person’s lifestyle and soul, you’ll always find the perfect piece.

Here’s a round-up of gifts that I love and that I think my girlfriends would love too.

My Coffee Table Has The Blues (but it’s happy)!

IMG_0334

I am constantly changing out the accessories on my coffee table but the one design element that remains a constant is a decorative tray.  I use trays because they add visual layers to the arrangement and they’re great for holding small decorative items and books.

You might remember this brown wood tray that often makes an appearance on my coffee table.  It’s sturdy, oversized and I like the texture and pattern of the woven liner but the tray was begging for a facelift.  As as thing go, changing the look of the tray led to a mini makeover with the coffee table decor.

Books and flowers are usually the items that add color to the table arrangement but I wanted a bolder color statement so I gave the tray its new look with a coat of emerald green paint (Behr Crown Jewel #P420-7) and new gold handles.

IMG_0241

Emerald green has always been a color I love and I plan to use more of it in my fall decor.

Once the tray got its facelift, I went about styling the table with some of my favorite pieces.  I recently started collecting blue and white chinoiserie and  love the combination of green, brass and blue & white.  The combo is eclectic and happy but still has a traditional feel which is right up my alley.

Blue and white ceramics are such a hot design trend right now and I’ve been fortunate to score some great pieces at incredible prices from thrift stores, flea markets and a new shopping source I recently discovered (I’ll share more about it next week).

My coffee table is fairly large and the color pops create the perfect contrast against the darker wood table.

I love how the arrangement turned out and I think the colors are perfect for the last few weeks of summer.

When I’m ready to start decorating for fall, (I’m not there just yet) the DIY pumpkins I’m making will work great alongside the new tray and blue and white pottery.

Pineapple Crush–A Hot Vintage Trend

Brass Pineapple via DaphneBleu

When it comes to vintage brass decor, one of the hottest collectible pieces on the market right now is pineapple decor.  Brass pineapples started REegaining their popularity over a year ago and although vintage styles are the best, big box brands have recognized the trend and are beginning to knock-off the designs in other materials and finishes.

Pineapples have always be the symbol of hospitality and here in the south pineapple images can be found on just about every type of home decor you can imagine.  Vintage brass pineapples add a new twist to decor because they are classic and traditional while at the same time fun and whimsical.  Here’s some inspiration for you…

Since brass pineapple decor is steadily going up in price and has become highly collectible, I recommend you keep your eyes peeled at thrift stores and flea markets these pieces.  And don’t pass up a tarnished or oxidized piece because a little Bar Keepers Friend or Brasso will work wonders on the finish.

My Lastest Thrifting Finds

Thrift Finds10

It’s no secret that I love trolling the aisles of thrift stores and flea markets whenever I can.  It’s the thrill of finding a beautiful decorative piece or furniture that needs some TLC that makes it such fun.  I’m always on the lookout for new stores in the area and recently came across a new-to-me antique store that was filled with lots of great bargains.

As always, a few of the items I find when thrifting are for me and others are for my Etsy shop.  Here’s what I found recently…

Blue and white pottery is such a popular trend right now and finding nice vintage pieces is becoming harder and harder.  I found this lidded jar and this blue and white vase and both pieces are really substantial and are in great condition.

IMG_0156

Rarely do I pass up a tray when I see one and this woven wicker tray was a steal at only $1.00.  And the leather side handles were an added bonus.

Thrift Finds6

I spotted this little wooden chest one day but left it in the store.  I couldn’t get it out of my mind so I headed back the next day and snagged it.  The carving detail on the drawer fronts is really beautiful and I love the overall look of the piece.  It would make a really great jewelry cabinet and would also look great on a bookshelf.

Thrift Finds5

I have a major obsession with brass and found some great pieces.  A little polishing and these babies will be extra stunning.

Thrift Finds

I loved the colors in this ceramic vase and the gold details make it even prettier.  I have so many ideas on how this piece can be used.

Thrift Finds4

Here’s a up close of the blue and white vase.

And probably my favorite piece is the beautiful brass bowl and I’m trying to decide if I want to keep it or put it in the shop.

The World’s Longest Yard Sale starts tomorrow and this is the first time in 4 years that the hubs and I won’t be making the trek.  So I don’t go through complete withdrawls, we’re planning a little weekend getaway and I plan to pop into a few shops along the way.   If you want to read about our WLYS trips you can read about them here and here.

10 Ways To Give Your Home a High-End Look

I took the design style quiz over on the decorist.com website and by golly I think they defined my style to T!

Here’s what it said…

You… like eclectic styles at heart with an eye towards integrating more modern looks.

You prefer to mix and match different styles rather than be totally traditional or modern, but you like to use the clean looks of more modern pieces. You love figuring out how to combine different designs into one cohesive whole.

YOU …

  • want your home to be stylish and that is a reflection of you and your overall tastes.
  • like a rustic or natural but refined look to your home.
  • like ethnic accents and a “worldly” look.
  • like warm colors.
  • like bright pops of color or colorful accents.
  • like luxurious materials.
  • like to use texture for visual interest.
  • like to use some traditional gilded or wood accents in your home to give it a sense of timelessness
  • like the look of natural materials in your home

The one thing the quiz failed to pick up on is that I love décor with a high-end look.

When it comes to decorating, I love to mix of budget finds with investment pieces, vintage finds with new pieces, and refined looks with rustic styles.  I don’t think your house has to be filled with expensive décor and furniture to have style, but I do believe there are easy and cost-effective things you can do to give your décor the look of high style .

I’m loving my new series, Product + Inspiration and I’m really excited to bring you this latest post which marries my love of vintage, brass and trays.

Brass trays are always on my radar whenever I’m antique shopping and in my book they are one of the best values when it comes to vintage decor.  Trays in general top the list of practical and versatile accessories and the list of decorating ideas using trays is endless.

My favorite brass tray style is faux bamboo because of the classic details but if that look is not for you, there are lots of other styles you might run across.

Let me inspire you…
