Ribbon Love: My Go To Source

One of the things I told in my 2012 blog goals post  was that I wanted to share with you my love of ribbon and creative and unique ways to gift wrap.  We’ll today is the first installment of Ribbon Love and I’m not only sharing with you fun Valentines gift wrap ideas, but also my favorite source for beautiful ribbons, May Arts Ribbon Company.

May Arts is a US  based company offering a vast array (thousands) of ribbons in every material, color and style you can imagine.  Up until now, May Arts has been available to the trade only, but I’m excited to announce that all of May Arts ribbons are now available to the public on their exclusive May Arts Amazon shop.

May Arts doesn’t just inspire you through their enormous offering of ribbons, they also have a newly updated blog full of craft, card and wrapping projects to thrill you as well.   And, to celebrate the blog redesign, May Arts is having a fantastic giveaway!  Head on over the May Arts blog, check out all the great stuff and enter to win ribbons and much more!

(p.s.  I’m a member of the May Arts design team so be sure to follow their blog and check out my ribbon projects).

Now on to the wrapping inspiration.

Presentation is everything and beautiful wrapping makes a gift even more special.

I folded and pleated the paper for this gift and then tied on a beautiful satin ribbon in a red and white diamond print.  A red glittered clothes pin holds a white die-cut tag I glued red dots to.

After wrapping my box in red paper, I placed a die cut note card on each end of the box and laced the two together with red and white cotton ribbon. (side view of the notecard above).

To create this look, I layered pink and red paint chip cards on top of each other and wrapped them around the box.  I used a white lace ribbon, paper mache heart and pink floral tag to finish the look.

Wrapping gifts is so much fun. I hope you’re inspired and ready to be creative with your gift wrapping and May Arts Ribbon!

Emerald Green surrounded by lighter tones of the color will give a room depth.  And, mixed with chocolate brown, green makes the space lively.

Navy blue and white take on a less traditional feel when green is thrown into the mix.  Use green in three or five places throughout the room to make the color pop feel intentional and connected.

I’m so loving this color, I decided to pull together a design inspiration board based on it.

So are you loving Emerald Green as much as I am?

or is there another color that’s inspiring you?

Bits of Inspiration: Vintage Christmas

I am in full Christmas decorating mode for clients this week, and in the evenings I’m working on all kinds of holiday projects around my house.

I mentioned before that my Christmas decor this year will be a mix of burlap, red, mercury glass and music themed elements.

Even with my theme set, I’m finding myself smitten and inspired by all the Vintage Christmas decor I’m seeing in blogland.   I love the mix of natural elements, the texture and all the shine and shimmer.  I’m so inspired, I’ve decided I’ll be making my version of many of these ideas to incorporate into my decor.

A Holiday Decorating Essential

For most of us, Christmas decorating is a couple of weeks away, but for me lots of prep is underway now.

A big part of my design business this time of year involves decorating clients homes for Christmas. AND, in preparing for this I stock up on 3M Command Hooks, which is one of my essential holiday decorating tools.

17001 Command™ Utility Hooks

If you are not familiar with Command Hooks, or if you’ve never used them before, you’ve been missing out.  Command Hooks are truly priceless when it comes to putting up Christmas decorations inside and outside your home (and for general decorating too!)

FC11-BN Command™ Metal Hooks

The beauty of Command Hooks is that they will mount on any smooth surface and can be removed without damaging the paint, wall paper, paneling etc.

I use different sizes when I’m decorating a home and love that Command Hooks come in different finishes and are so easy to apply.

17006 Command™ Mini Hooks

The mini clear hooks are one of my favorite products and are perfect for hanging ornaments from a window or anywhere you need the hook to really disappear.

During the Christmas season in my store, I used Command Hooks everywhere to hold up garland around a mantle and to  hang wreaths on walls and doors.  Here are a few holiday photos from the store last year where Command Hooks were used.

Command Hooks were placed on the corners of the mantel and the garland was secured to them with floral wire.  This garland was pretty heavy and the hooks did a great job in preventing the garland from slipping.

In this mantel arrangement, the bow and ornaments surrounding it were attached using Command Hooks.

This is a clients home and we used Command Hooks at the top of the window and then hung the bow, greenery and ornaments from them.

Command Hooks are so versatile and make decorating at the holidays really easy.

The hooks are perfect for hanging wreaths in an area where you wouldn’t want to place a nail, like this staircase.

Command Hooks work great on a front door, hanging a holiday sign.  I’ve even used the bigger hooks outside to hang garland around my front door.

So, as I get ready for a slew of house decorating, I wanted to let everyone in on one of my essential holiday decorating tools and why I love COMMAND HOOKS so much.  You might just want to try them out for yourselves, I promise, you’ll be HOOKED!

Do you have any “can’t live without” holiday decorating tools you use?  I’d love to know.

Some Things Never Go Out of Style–Polka Dots

If you’ve been tracking the Fall 2011 Fashion Trends, you’ve seen that Polka Dots are going to be a big thing.

The history of Polka Dots goes way back and has been a staple in the fashion AND home decor industry for years.  I happen to love polka dots, not only because of the whimsy they bring, but also because they are classic and can be interpreted into any style statement.

Polka Dots come in a lot of different colors, classic black and white (my fave) to a range of rainbow colors.

Love, Love, Love!

Polka Dots offer great inspiration for home design projects and party tablescapes.

Whether used as an accent or the primary pattern statement, Polka Dots are an easy way to infuse a distinct style statement into a space, event or look.

When it comes to dressing with Polka Dots, your look can be classic, modern or edgy.

So, with Fall just around the corner, add Polka Dots to your shopping list….for your wardrobe and for your home!

What’s your favorite version of Polka Dots…black and white or full of color?
