DIY Rope Projects

Summer is the time of year when you see more natural, neutral and coastal inspired décor.  One of the design elements I love this time of year is rope details.
Years ago I made my first rope covered lamp and at the time I thought it was pretty awesome.  Rope DIY projects have come a long way since then, getting more sophisticated and stylish.  Check out these Rope DIY Projects that have me inspired for summer!

This is such an easy and inexpensive way to transform simple glass vases into coastal inspired flower vases for summer.  I would even go so far as to paint the rope in a color to match the décor of the room.

How awesome is this mirror?  The next time I come across a round thrift store mirror I just might have to give this a try.  The lighter colored rope makes this piece suitable for a more transitional space too.

This is probably the coolest rope DIY project I’ve seen.  What a great way to transform one of those old wood TV trays into a side table.  A pretty cool idea for a night stand too!

Love these rope tables.  Just add a glass top to make them really functional.

I’m definitely going to give this project a try.  I have several of those inexpensive mirror rounds from Hobby Lobby that will make the perfect center piece.

So what do you think?  Is there a ROPE DIY project in your future?

Happy Saturday!
It has rained in Atlanta for the last week or so and when that happens I get the urge to nest and create. I came across the image above and immediately feel in love with the black armoire, texture and warmth of the space.  This image has inspired me to make a few changes in our bedroom so while the rain falls today the hubs and I will be doing a little painting and accessorizing.  Enjoy your weekend and these links….

Let’s Get Crafty: Marbleized Gift Tags

The other day I was cleaning out under the bathroom sink and realized I had a hoard of nail polish.  While I mostly wear red and pink polish I found a couple of unique colors in my stash.  Colors that would be perfect for making Marbleized Gift Tags which have been on my crafting to-do list for months.

Slide1  Marbleized Gift Tags (1) copy

Supplies:

*  fingernail polish  – in a mix of colors
*  metal pie tin (from the dollar store)
* old cookie sheet
*  water
*  blank gift tags
*  wood skewer or toothpick
*nail polish remover – for clean up

Marbleized Gift Tags (2) copy
 Work in a well ventilated area or you’ll be feeling as swirly as your gift tags when you’re done.

 Fill the pie pan with 1/4″ to 1/2″ of water.
Begin dropping the polish into the water but work fast as the nail polish tends to  solidify rather quickly.
Mix the nail polish colors together using your tooth pick.  The mix doesn’t look pretty at this point but the end result will be different.
 Instead of swirling the colors together you can also pull the colors in a line pattern to keep the colors a bit more separated.

Once your colors are mixed, lightly place your gift tag on to the surface of the water.  Don’t submerge the tag.  The polish will adhere to the tag.

Once you’ve dipped your tags lay them flat on your cookie sheet to dry.
You’ll get a different pattern and color combination with every gift tag and the fun will last for hours 🙂
Ta da…

 Didn’t I tell you the result would be great?!
 I’m headed to store today to pick up some more nail polish to make more of these beautiful tags.  I’ll have some for sale in my Ruffles and Remnants Etsy shop soon.
Happy Crafting!

DIY Polka Dot Cocktail Napkins

I’m back today with a fun DIY project!

Ever since seeing these cute cocktail napkins at Anthropologie I’ve wanted to buy a set or two or three.

Last week while looking around at Tuesday Morning, I came across a set 12 solid colored cocktail napkins and the DIY bell went off in my head.

To create your polka dot cocktail napkins simply dip the end of the eraser in your fabric paint and place random dots on your napkins.  Easy peasy with fabulous results!

Decorating with Washi Tape

I am a crafter and have tried just about every crafting tool and material out there.  One of my favorite crafting supplies these days is Washi Tape.  This pretty little tape comes in lots of different designs, widths and colors and it can be used in so many creative ways.  While many crafters use Washi Tape for paper projects, I’m in awe of some of the home décor projects I’ve seen using the tape.

 Creating a stunning party table runner doesn’t get any easier than this….a roll of white wrapping paper and washi tape.

 Fun but maybe not so practical!

If I had kids I would definitely let them decorate with washi tape.  This would also be a great idea for a dorm room.
Pretty cool huh?

I have been in a super creative mood the last few weeks  and it feels great.  Between design projects, making jewelry and vintage shopping, I’ve also been working on new clipboard designs.  You’ll see the new styles available in the shop by this weekend.
The week ahead is looking like a busy one with a couple of design meetings on the schedule, Scott Antique Market on Thursday (I didn’t go last month) and I finally decided what I’m going to paint pink.

 Cheers to a stellar week ahead!

I Want to Paint Something PINK

Do you ever go through a phase where you are totally smitten with a color and just want to surround yourself with it?  You want to wear it, decorate with it and have almost found yourself calling it your favorite color.  Well pink, hot pink to be exact is my color crush of the moment.  I just can’t get enough of it and the happy vibe that it puts out.  I recently found myself searching for pink pieces to add to my wardrobe and am looking for ways to incorporate the color into my décor.  Pink is one of those colors that can be used in a variety of ways, always makes a statement and puts a smile on my face!
I love the idea of transforming an old piece of furniture into a special piece with pink paint and new hardware.
 Or maybe I’ll take a few of the old frames I have stored in my garage and paint them pink.  It could be the start of a really fabulous gallery wall.
Painting a basket hot pink just might work too.  I can envision this pop of color brightening up my black and white bedroom for summer.
 Maybe new DIY pillows are in order.
I just thrifted several old candlesticks that could be up-styled with some pink paint.

I’m also in love with the idea of painting some old book covers hot pink.  What do you think?
I come across old flatware all the time when I’m out thrifting and think this paint project could be a fun one.
Painting is not something I do a lot of, especially when it’s 85 degrees outside but I’m itching to get a little crafty this weekend.  Stay tuned and see what falls prey to my can of pink spray paint!
