8 Christmas Door Basket with Royal Design Studio Stencils

One of the things I love to do most around the holidays is to craft a few new decorative pieces for my home.  And I love trying new products so when the opportunity came up to partner with Royal Design Studios I jumped at it.

You probably know Royal Design Studio from their amazing collection of home decor and decorating stencils, but may not know that they also have a wonderful selection of holiday design stencils.

One of the new collections they have this year was designed by the creative and talented blogger Jennifer Rizzo.  The collection includes 16 unique designs and two of the stencils were the perfect jumping off point for my latest holiday project…

DIY Christmas Countdown Board

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed the long weekend.

Christmas Countdown Chalkboard (13) copy

I’m excited to share my latest DIY Christmas craft with you today!  I had an idea in my mind to create a Christmas Countdown using my chalkboard and originally planned to use burlap bags to hold a daily treat.

I was going to stencil numbers onto the front of each bag and hang it on my chalkboard with a magnetic clothes pin.

Each bag was going to hold a little treat  or a special message that my hubby and I could share each day.

My Christmas Countdown was going to be  cute and whimsical, and fit in with my black, white and red tartan Christmas decor theme.

Let’s Get Crafty: DIY Glitter Stripe Candles

IMG_0555

I’m in the process of putting together our Thanksgiving table and one of the elements I wanted to include was Glitter Stripe Taper Candles.  I usually burn pillar candles as part of any table setting I create but I love the look of taper candles as part of the centerpiece.

There are a thousand different ways to decorate a room.  You can add furniture, artwork or accessories or you can paint the walls, hang curtains or add rugs.  All of these things are viable when it comes to decorating any area of your home but the decorating doesn’t and shouldn’t stop there.

Easy Woodworking DIY–Bookstand

Fall Vignette by ConfettiStyle-Books

I have a lot of design books and they area displayed all kinds of ways throughout my house.  Some are on the coffee table, some are on the console table and some are stacked on a side table.

Everytime I get a new book  (or two) I have an urge to keep it out and display it somehow.  That’s where this DIY project can into play.

I decided to create a simple book stand using inexpensive wood cutting boards.  I purchased a set of 3 cutting boards from HomeGoods.  The set included three graduated sizes and the wood was a natural finish.

To create my book stand I used the large and small size cutting boards and two pieces of unfinished 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″” piece of wood I bought at Hobby Lobby.  I had to cut about 2″ off each piece of wood so that it was the same length as my cutting board.  Since I had to stain the unfinished wood pieces, I also rubbed some Minwax stain on the cutting boards to darken them up a bit and so they would match the wood pieces.

After the wood pieces were stained I glued two edges together so that one was flat and one was standing and then glued the other edge of the flat piece to the cutting board.  I let the glue set over night.

To create an easel back for the stand I attached the small cutting board to the back of the large one using a piano hinge.  To prevent the stand from sliding when standing I attached clear rubber bumpers to the bottom edge of the small cutting board.

Voila!  A chic book stand that I can use to display my favorite design book of the moment.
