I love conceptualizing beautiful tablescapes and finding the unique elements that bring my vision to life.

For my fall table this year, I’m dreaming of blue and white decor with pops of orange and accents of wood.  I want the table to have a rustic but elegant feel with a vintage vibe.  Here’s how I see the table coming together…

4th of July Decor Ideas to make in under an hour!

4th of July via Country Living

Decorating for a festive holiday can be fun and easy. Heres a round-up of simple but festive 4th of July decor that will take you less than an hour to create and don’t require any major crafting skills.

4th of July Decorating Ideas.001

1) Scrap Fabric Flag–this fun twist of the American flag is made from scraps of ribbon, fabric and paint.   Depending on where you want to hang it, you can make one in any size.  I think one hanging on the front door or a couple of hanging for a deck railing would look great.
2)  Make your own mini American flags using wood skewered and flag ribbon.  These are great as a cake topper or to use in flower arrangements.
Flag ribbon is on sale for $2.00 per spool at Hobby Lobby.

USA Flag Ribbon

3)  This may not work for everyone depending on the temperature where you live but I love the look of the 4th of July candles.  Just wrap red, white or blue pillar candles with decorative red/white/blue paper and you’re all set.  After the 4th remove the paper and your candles are ready for the next project.   p.s.  scrapbook paper is 50% off this week at Hobby Lobby
4)  Use that same decorative paper you used to wrap your candles and make your own paper pinwheels.  These are so easy to make and are sure to bring back some great childhood memories. Find my tutorial here.
4th of July Decorating Ideas.0025)  Turn inexpensive bandanas into a festive 4th of July flag banner.  You can cut 3 to 4 triangle piece from a single bandana.
6) Another fun way to decorate with bandanas is using them as table linens.  Line a handful up down the middle of the table for a quick and easy holiday runner.
7)  Turn a watermelon into a stylish and fun 4th of July floral centerpiece.  Punch small holes (about 1/2″ deep into the watermelon and insert flower stems.  Once the party it over, cut watermelon open and scoop out some watermelon to enjoy.

So what plans do you have for the 4th and how are you decorating?

My Favorite Party Decor Items

Decorating and entertaining are two of my passions and one of the key components to a festive and stylish party is the decor.  No matter what type of party you’re hosting, there are a few decorative elements that are guaranteed to add a touch of cheer and a pop of party fun.

Today I’m sharing my favorite party decor pieces, some party inspiration and my go-to sources for shopping party goods.

Let's Celebrate--Favorite Party Supplies.001

Party Pinwheel Decor –when you want to make a big impact at your party, pinwheel paper fans will do the trick.  Hang them free-floating or anchor them against a wall to create a fun photo backdrop.  Layering different sizes and patterns is the key to a lavish look.

DIY Toile Tablecloth (and a Giveaway)

DIY Toile Tablecloth

I saw it…I admired it…and then I decided to make it!

One day when I was surfing through the Neiman Marcus website, I spotted a beautiful green and white toile tablecloth.  It had everything going for it except the price ($$$). I continued to search for more budget friendly options but the only color I found at the price I wanted to pay was blue and white.

Well, the universe must have been hearing my cries because just about the time I was going to settle for a blue and white tablecloth, Cutting Edge Stencils contacted me and asked if I wanted to review one of their stencil designs.  A quick review of their collection and I said YES.  They had the perfect toile stencil so I could make my own toile tablecloth and save lots of money. Plus I always love a good craft challenge.

So what do you think?  Pretty darn cute if I may say so myself.

*****

If you’ve never given stenciling a try, I urge you to do it.  It’s easy and a great way to create custom decor for your home. Making my tablecloth took just a couple of hours and a few supplies.  Here’s how…

Supply list:

White Tablecloth –It’s best to get a 100% cotton or cotton blend which will allow the paint to absorb better
Secret Garden Toile Stencil  (if toile isn’t your look, there are tons of designs to choose from)
Foam paint roller
Acrylic Paint –I used Anita’s acrylic paint in Christmas Green and purchased 2 of the large size bottles
Textile Medium–creates a soft, flexible and washable paint surface
Painters Tape, Spray Adhesive, Plastic paint tray or disposable paper plate
  1.  Gather your supplies and lay the tablecloth out on a smooth, firm surface.  I used my dining room table and placed a plastic drop cloth under the white tablecloth to protect the table surface.
  2. To ensure a clean paint application, use spray adhesive on the back of your stencil to prevent any paint bleeding. Spray the back of the stencil, let it sit for a few minutes and then place the stencil onto the tablecloth, starting in the upper right corner.
  3. Mix 2 parts paint with 1 part textile medium and pour paint onto the disposable plate.
  4. Coat your roller with paint and then roll the roller on the paper towel to remove most of the paint. You want the roller to have very little paint on it when you begin to reduce paint bleed.
  5. Paint over the stencil–you may need to go over the stencil 2 or 3 times to get the depth of color you want.
  6. Let the stencil sit for just a minute and then remove it.  Move your stencil and repeat the process until you’ve covered the entire tablecloth.

DIY Toile Tablecloth

Once my tablecloth was painted, I decided to add a decorative trim along the edge and added a canary yellow woven gimp I purchased on clearance at Hobby Lobby.  I love the pop of color!

DIY Toile Tablecloth

I’m thrilled with how my Toile Tablecloth turned out and will definitely to enjoy using it year round.

Now it’s your turn to get in on the stencil fun.  Cutting Edge Stencils is giving away a $50 gift certificate to one of my readers.  Enter below for your chance to win!

Favorites Of The Week

Anyone else excited about the long weekend ahead?  We’ve got a jammed packed weekend with a road trip to Kentucky to see my nephew graduate from college and a party to celebrate this milestone.  I can’t believe how fast time as flown, how grown up he is and how old I’m feeling. It seems like yesterday that he was in grade school looking forward to his high-school years.  Now he’s heading out into the big world, starting his own business and making his mark in the world.

I hope you enjoy your weekend and this weeks favorite posts, pins and products.

As a child I spent just about every summer on the road with my parents and my brother exploring the country.  Traveling by car was the best and we got to see and experience so many amazing places.  My love to car travel has continues as an adult and given the time, we’d pick a car over a plane any time.   Late spring and summer is the best time for scenic car travel and it’s been fun following Emily and her family on their 3-month summer road trip and get a peek inside their Airstream camper.
