Decorating for Free: Sources for FREE Art

Oh-yes-Free

Don’t you love when you can decorate for FREE?  I certainly do.  Sometimes free stuff comes knocking at your door and sometimes you have to go looking for it.

Recently I was in need of some botanical artwork but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it.  I thought about going to used book store and seeing if I could find a discounted book that I could cut images from.  I also thought about hitting up some local thrift stores to see if I could find any quality pieces.  And then I decided to do a google search and one thing lead to another.

After searching several online shops, I took a chance and typed in free botanical art just on the off-chance that something great might pop up.  Low and behold something fabulous happened.

Fashion Focus: Creating a Signature Style

ba92e6ee25f39436d2967f5c5d9213e2

I like to think that over the years I’ve developed somewhat of a signature fashion style–a fashion sense that speaks to who I am and what I’m about.  My signature style revolves around the silhouettes, style details and colors that I like to wear and that make me feel good, comfortable and my best self. My signature style conveys a lot about my personality and influences the way that I carry myself and interact to others.

5 Things

Happy Thursday!  It’s almost the weekend and I couldn’t be more excited.  The week after a vacation can be crazy and I am in need of a little extra sleep this weekend.

Have seen those post around blogland that highlight 5 things going on in the bloggers life at the moment?  I always enjoy reading them and decided to do my version from time to time here on ConfettiStyle.  It’s just a fun way of letting you take a peek into my life.

MAKING:  my project list is long and the first thing I’m tackling is a DIY stationery caddy inspired by this.

EATING:  There are so many reasons to love summer but eating cherries on a daily basis is one of the best parts of the season.  This easy cherry tart has become by favorite summer treat.

READING: I am finally breaking down and ordering a subscription to this magazine because it is always filled with great business advise and inspiration.

PLANNING:  I’m excited to be attending the Haven Conference for the first time and I’m starting to get prepared for it.  I ordered this cute jumpsuit to wear and these business cards (at 50% off) which couldn’t be more perfect for ConfettiStyle!

ENJOYING:  Sometimes your best creative ideas come when you are alone and this video makes me smile every time I look at it.   Brilliant!

So what’s been going on in your life?

Fashion Focus: Off The Shoulder Fashions

As the weather has warmed (ok, it’s gotten down right hot), have your noticed all the off-the-shoulder fashions that are showing up everywhere?

Just as I started writing this blog post I clicked over to Instagram and noticed a new posting from fashion illustrator Inslee.  How funny that they very topic I was writing on was depicted in her latest original art drawing entitled June.  Just goes to show you how hot this fashion trend is.

For spring and summer, I think the off-the-shoulder look is lighthearted and fun and is a look that most people can pull off.  I do however think there are a few rules you should follow when wearing this look…

1)  Don’t Wear a Bra with Straps! Off-the-shoulder tops are meant to be worn strapless bras so that the shoulder area is clear.  Nothing ruins this look easier than your bra straps showing.

2) Opt For a Loose Causal Fit! Because you are exposing skin already, you want your top or dress to be loose and carefree.  A more form-fitting off-the-shoulder top should be saved for evenings out or special occasions.

3)  Avoid This Look if You Have Broad Shoulders!  If your broad shoulders are a feature you don’t like to play up then you might want to avoid this look.  Off-the-shoulder styles will make the shoulder area look broader.

4)  A Longer Length is Better than a Shorter Length!  Off-the-shoulder looks feel more like sportswear when they are longer in length.  Look for styles that hit at the hip as these will be most flattering with shorts, slim pants and skirt.  When it comes to dresses,  lengths that hit at the knee or slightly below as well as maxi dress styles are the most flattering.

5)  Off-The-Shoulder Styles Warrant Bold Jewelry!  This is look is perfect when you want to show off a statement necklace or blog earrings and it’s a great way to draw attention to your face.

Here are a few of my favorite spring and summer off-the-shoulder pieces:

What to Get Mom for Mother’s Day?

Greetings!  I hope you had a great weekend!  My weekend started off awesome and ended the same way so I have nothing to complain about.  The sunny skies and warm weather were an added bonus.

Did you get out and do any shopping this weekend? Maybe looking for a Mother’s Day gift like me?

If you were out and about you probably noticed that a lot of stores have spring sales going on now. It’s a great time to pick up spring fashion accessories, home décor accents and spring footwear.

If you follow me on Instagram (which I hope you do), you saw that I mentioned the buy one, get one 50% off accessory sale at Target. There are some really great pieces that would make fab Mother’s Day gifts.

How about a pretty scarf for mom ($14.99)…

or maybe a summer tote bag ($34.99)!

I spotted several scarves and summer totes I wanted for myself but after getting the “not another handbag” look from the hubs I decided a trip on my own was in order so I’m heading back today to do some more looking.

Another store I popped into over the weekend was C. Wonder.  You all know I love that store!  They have their additional 50% off sale going on now and if you or your mom loves monograms you don’t want to miss this.

This monogram iPhone case is $24.99 less 50% and every letter is a different color combo.  I couldn’t pass up the ‘S’ since it was my favorite color combo–red, white and gold.

I know my mom would love a monogrammed mug paired with her favorite tea.  The mug is $7.99 less 50%. You can’t beat that and it’s never to early to start thinking about Christmas gifts too!

This monogram pillow cover is gorgeous in person and I wish I would have found an M but no go.  $29.99 less 50%.

If you’ve wanted one of the classic C Wonder nylon totes, now is the time to snag one on sale.  Not all the sizes are on sale but the mini and Easy tote sizes are.  Mini–$44.99 and the Easy tote is $59.99 less 50%.  You can also get the bag monogrammed for an extra $10. What mom wouldn’t love this?

If your mom loves to entertain, she’ll love these fun herringbone coasters Set of 4 for $34.99 less 50%.

And I love this Trellis print travel case for $49.99 less 50%.  There are more sizes available too!

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and I need to get my gift wrapped and in the mail.  Come back tomorrow and I’ll show you a fun and easy gift wrapping idea your mom will  love.

Product Profile: Pranzo Bag

untitled (21)

I am a professed bag lady with more handbags and totes than the average woman really needs.  One of the reasons I have so many bags is because I love handbags and think of them like I do jewelry, an essential accessory to my wardrobe.  The other reason that my bag collection is always growing is because I am always on the hunt for bags that serve different functions in my life.

Fashion Focus: Spring Shoe Trend

I love a great open toe or slip-on sandal but sometimes I feel like those styles are a bit too casual when I’m heading out to meet with a client or have an appointment.  When I dress for business during the spring and summer my favorite work shoe is a slingback sandal.  I love the more polished look they give an outfit and the low heel makes they easy to get around in.  I so glad that slingbacks are a big trend for spring and summer 2014, which will make footwear shopping a breeze.

My personal requirements for a slingback sandals are…

**they must have a pointed toe (makes you legs look longer)

**they must have some style (a bow, pattern or fun color)

**they must be affordable (long are the days when I felt I had to spend $$$ for a pair of shoes)

During a recent on-line shopping exploration I came across some really cute slingbacks that meet all my requirements and are the perfect way to infuse this spring footwear trend into my wardrobe.

Take a look and tell me which is your favorite?
