The other morning I took an early morning stroll around one of the largest malls here in Atlanta and spotted what is going to be one of the biggest fashion looks for all. I am all for this look because it is the perfect blend of sporty and causal, colorful yet classic and tailored yet edgy.
This look is going to be so popular that even the Color of The Year and the Print of The Year are getting in on the fun!
St. John sweater available at Nordstrom for $495.00!
The good news…I saw this look in just about every store in the mall and in lots of different price categories, so you have lots of shopping options if you want to get in on this trend.
What do you think of this fall fashion trend? Will you be sporting a colorblock sweater?
Fall Fashion Trend: Jewelry with a “B”
Good Morning! I hope you weekend was super. Mine was great and I got lots done around my abode and even squeezed in a little outdoor time. Did you feel the change in the air? I surely did and can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to fall arriving in full force. One of the things that I’m most looking forward to is adding a few new pieces of jewelry to my fall wardrobe. I’ve seen such fabulous looks in all the fashion magazine and it has me in the mood to shop. Good thing one of the items on my to-do-list this week is a trip to the gift mart. Just so happens that on the 7th floor of building 3 there lies an enormous showroom full of on-trend fashion jewelry. I wish I could take pictures of the showroom to share with you but it is strictly forbidden. But I can share a look at three fall fashion trends I’ll be on the hunt for, Bold, Bling and Bodacious!
BOLD
BLING
BODACIOUS
With the jewelry trends for fall such statement pieces, you’ll only need to wear one or two pieces to complete your outfit. This is the season to Go Big, or go Home and I for one will be going BIG!

Fall Fashion Trend: The Outer Layer
I know coats and outerwear are the last thing on your mind given that it’s probably 85 degrees where you are right now, but whether we want it to happen or not, fall and winter are coming and we all need to be fashionably ready.
So I thought I’d pop in today and share one of the hottest fall fashion trends of with you, OUTERWEAR. Fall and winter outerwear often gets the short end of the style stick with function trumping fashion but for 2013 coats are making a major fashion statement. The trend is boxy, slouchy, plaid and stripes, with just about every color on the color wheel being popular. So grab a glass of ice tea and take a look at what you’ll be seeing in the coming months in magazines, store windows and on the street!
Grey, black and white have always been top colors used in outerwear but when combined into a stripe they take on a fresh appeal. The classic double-breasted car coat silhouette is one you’ll see a lot of as always.
Here’s the slouchy approach to that classic car coat style. This is a tricky silhouette to pull off and if not done right you could look like a balloon. The key is to keep your top and pant slim and close cut.
This plaid coat is awesome! The kimono style is really fun in this red and white plaid and the black piping helps to give the coat structure. {fyi– I’m pretty sure if you found this coat in a store it would come with a finished hem}
Classic black and white tweed in a raglan sleeve coat. Stripes mixed with tweed are one of my favorite pattern combos.
Even long coat styles are more relaxed for fall!
The color camel is also a hot trend for fall and works great as a stripe paired with black. You’ll be seeing wide and narrow stripes so you’ll have options.
I love anything in red so this coat really appeals to me. The fur collar is fab and the bell sleeves and oversized pockets give this coat some playfulness.
If pastels are your thing you’ll find outerwear in those colors too.
This look is so beautiful. I’ve always been drawn to a head-to-toe color palette and the ice blue is so chic in my book. And the tapered silhouette really helps with the shape of this coat.
Hum? At first glance I really liked this coat but the more I look at it the more I see “fire fighter”. The orange however is fab and will be a big color for fall and winter so keep your eye open for less industrial looks in that color.
There you have it, your first look at fall fashion trends. Since I’m a fashion fiend, I’ll be sharing some more fall looks with you over the next few weeks so getting your shopping list ready. Until then enjoy your glass of ice tea and the last bits of summer!
The Art of Layering Jewelry
Gone are the days when a simple chain necklace was the accessory of choice. The trend in jewelry has shifted to “more is better” and “bigger is best”. In 2013 it’s all about statement necklaces, bold bangles, multiple pieces and lots of layering. Sound like an easy look to pull together? Well, I’ve seen many a woman try to pull off this look with no luck. There’s an art to layering all those beautiful necklaces and bracelets you’re seeing in stores and on-line and I’m here to share a few styling tips with you, so you can layer your jewelry with confidence.
With so many summer sales going on, now is the perfect time to pick up a few bold colored necklaces that can carry you into fall. Be creative with mixing and matching your pieces and have fun creating looks that show off your personality.

Fashion Focus: Army Jackets
When I was in high school I loved to go to the army surplus store and buy army jackets, bags and hats. I thought I was making a unique style statement at the time but little did I know, I was at the front of a fashion trend. Jump ahead to today and it looks like ARMY JACKETS are going to be a big trend for Fall 2013.
I know this look isn’t for everyone and a lot of you might feel like an army jacket is too masculine or unfashionable, but let me convince you otherwise.
Think of an army jacket like you would a cardigan and wear it as light layer over a feminine blouse or tank.
To give your army jacket a feminine edge, pair it with heels and bold accessories.
The combination of animal print and military green is really chic.
Your army jacket is also a great piece to wear with dresses. Give it some attitude by pushing the sleeves up and poppin’ the collar.
Army jackets also look great when worn with bold colors. Red and yellow are two of my favorite colors to wear in fall and both look fabulous paired with army green.
I also like army green with stripes (and red, animal print and bold jewelry)!
For you bolder fashionistas, you might want to give the camo look a try.
And just like any fashion statement, jewelry can transform a look!
Need more inspiration?….
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when it comes to wearing the Army Jackets…
1) Buy a slimmer silhouette or one that has a draw string waist. Avoid oversized, slouchy fits.
2) Opt for either a short hip length style or go for the trench coat length, both of which are most flattering.
3) Pair your army jacket with bold pieces–patterns, colors or silhouettes.
4) Embellish your jacket with jewelry, belts or even faux fur trim.
5) Wear accessories that will give your army jacket an edge!
Still can’t commit to the jacket, then maybe this camo tote is more your style?
Available from LL Bean!

Creating a Stylish Clutch from the Craft Store
Ok, so we all know I love handbags and clutches have a special place in my heart. A couple of week ago I was wandering around Hobby Lobby and came across their “blanks” section. This is the area of the store where they have plain t-shirts, canvas bags, baseball caps and other items that you can embellish, paint or do whatever crafting magic you want on them.
I came across this grey felt clutch and was inspired to create a clutch based on one of my favorite designer handbag lines.
This was the inspiration ($173.00)…..
And this is my finished clutch!
How to:
I purchased a band of black textured fabric from JoAnn’s and measured it to a 3 1/2 inch width. I folded the edges under and used black stitch witchery to secure them down.
Once that was done I wrapped the black fabric around the clutch starting at the under side of the front flap, around the back and on the inside front of the clutch. I used dabs of hot glue along the edge of the black fabric to secure it in place.
Next I took a length of green grosgrain ribbon and centered it on top of the black fabric. Again I used hot glue to hold the edges down.
Next I added silver corner pieces to my clutch, attached with E6000 glue.
To add the finishing touch to my clutch I found a vintage black tassel earring in my jewelry supply chest and took it apart. I placed the round piece of the earring on the front flap of the clutch and stitched the tassel part to the top corner.
All in all my designer inspired clutch cost me less than $ 9.00!
Here’s the breakdown: Grey Felt Pouch $ 4.99 less 40%=$2.99 Black Fabric $2.50 from JoAnn’s Green Grosgrain Ribbon–from my stash. You can find grosgrain ribbon at Hobby Lobby for $2.99 less 40% if you have a coupon.
