My 101 Series on Facebook

One the main reasons I started writing my blog was to share my love of “teaching” with others.  By teaching I mean sharing my years of experience, the tips, tricks, ideas and  inspiration that I come across, surround myself with and use when working with design clients, decorating my home or creating DIY and craft projects.  While I have the opportunity to teach design classes here in Atlanta, I can’t always share my ideas with those of you far away….until now.  Starting next week on the ConfettiStyle Interiors Facebook Page I’ll be sharing all those tips, tricks, ideas and inspiration in a new Facebook Only series I’m starting called…

Series 101

The series will focus on Interior Design, Entertaining, Fashion and Gifting, all the things I’m passionate about.

Gift Wrap Inspiration: Pinwheel Gift Topper

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I’ve got a quick and simple Gift Wrap Inspiration that is perfect for adding a little fun to mom’s gift!
Slide1 copy
It’s no secret that I love paper products and one of my favorite crafts to make are paper pinwheels.  When thinking about how I wanted to wrap my Mother’s Day gifts,  I thought a Paper Pinwheel Topper would be a fun and whimsical touch.
Here’s how to do it…

Slide1

How to:

Select a decorative paper with a pattern on both sides.  Cut your paper in a perfect square–the bigger your square, the bigger your pinwheel will be.
Draw a light pencil line from corner to corner, intersecting at the middle of the square.
Using scissors, cut along each line towards the center, stopping about 1/4″ from the center point.  You’ll have 4 triangular pieces attached at the center of your square.
Starting with one corner tip, fold it into the center, securing it with a dab of hot glue.
Take the right tip of the next triangle section and fold it to the center and secure with glue.  Do the same with the remaining triangle pieces, creating your pinwheel.

Slide2

Add a decorative button or brad to the center of the pinwheel to finish it off.
After making my pinwheels, I wrapped my boxes in polka dot craft paper.  I added ribbon bands in colors to match my pinwheel and secured my pinwheels as bows on the top of each gift.

Gift Wrap Inspiration: Flower Bands

It’s SPRING and there’s nothing I love more than spring flowers, even when it comes to gift wrapping.

I’ve got a couple of special birthdays to celebrate this month, so I got a head start on buying gifts and got them all wrapped up.

IMG_1678 copy

I wanted these gifts to be bright and bold so I choose a yellow and white polka dot paper, red flowers and orange ribbon.  I also wrapped one of the gifts in a green gift back using the same flowers and ribbon to dress it up.

    IMG_5823 copy

To make the flower band, I pulled the flower bunch apart separating the flower heads from the leaves. The leaves were attached in pairs so I had to cut them apart.

IMG_1675 copy

Next I cut a length of ribbon to fit around my box and then hot glued the leaves and flower heads to the center of the ribbon.  I layered the flowers and the leaves to make the cluster look fuller.

IMG_1676 copy

Then all I had to do was to wrap the ribbon around the box and tape it down underneath

I placed the flower band vertically on the outside of the bag and hot glued it to the inside and bottom of the bag.

This is a simple and easy way to create beautiful gift wrap and you can customize the look by changing the paper and flowers to fit your occasion.

The Perfect Last Minute Gift: Gift Cards

I don’t know about you but I have some very hard people to shop for during the holidays.  You know, the person that has everything and needs nothing (MOM), the person that will enjoy anything you get them and is not at all picky (HUSBAND), the person that is a tech genius and wants all the new electronic gadgets that are out, except they already own everything so there’s really nothing you can think of to buy (BROTHER), and the person that is just plain hard to buy for (18-year-old NEPHEW)!  When it comes down to the-hard-to-buy-for on my Christmas list, I more times than not buy a few gift cards, making my job as Santa a little easier.

Here are a list of my favorite gift cards to give (and get) and why!

I love the TJX group of stores and because you can find just about everything you need for your home at these stores (necessities like towels or luxuries like candles), this is the perfect gift card to give to a man or woman.

CityScapes  Gift Card

While I buy most of my books via AMAZON, I don’t know anyone that doesn’t love to visit B & N and waste a few hours looking through books and magazines.  My brother is a magazine “collector” like me so this is the perfect gift card for him!  And, my nephews college accepts B & N gift cards in the campus store so it also works for him too!

Ok, while an Anthropologie gift card doesn’t really make a great gift for my mom, husband, brother or nephew, it does make a great gift for ME!  There stuff is so pretty and just adds a little “happy” to life!

A Best Buy gift card is great for just about anyone because of the vast array of items they sell in their store. Perfect for the techie, business person, teenager or even a MOM that may need a new vacuum or printer.

Santa Hat

The AMAZON gift card is one of my favorites because they sell any and everything AND because if you love books, this is the best gift you could give a book lover!

So I know a Staples gift card doesn’t sound glamorous but I can’t think of anything I hate more to spend money on than office supplies.  With a staples gift card, purchasing necessities becomes a bit more enjoyable and allows you to spend  your money on fun stuff !

Who doesn’t love Target and who wouldn’t love one of their gift cards!  So many things to buy, and especially now, the items from the Neiman Marcus collaboration which are 50% off!

I’m not a coffee drinker but I do love a Starbucks hot chocolate fix in the winter and an ice tea fix in the summer.  Starbucks is a little indulgence anyone would love!

And finally, because nothing makes road trips (or even a lazy Saturday morning) more fun than a “free” stop at Cracker Barrel!

So many reasons I love giving gift cards during the holidays and now that most of these companies offer e-cards the gift giving is instantaneous and even easier!

If you need a last-minute gift, click on any of the gift card images above and buy one for someone on your list!

I hate to bring this up but, Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?  I’ve checked a few things off my list but have a few more things to buy before I can call it done.  In my search for unique gifts I’ve some across some things that have officially made it onto my Favorite Things list for 2012.  To make my list the item must have gotten a few “oohs” from me AND must have been budget friendly.  Check them out below, you never know, one or more of these fabulous gift items just might make it on to your gift list!

FIVE Spring Gift Ideas From Ikea

When I have nothing by time on my hands, IKEA is one of my favorite stores to prowl around.  Their new spring items have just arrived at their stores and in walking the aisles, I discovered some fabulous gift items for all those spring gift giving occasions (Mother’s Day, weddings, hostess gifts).

Check out five of my faves….

ANGENÄM Bowl IKEA

Angenam Bowl–$24.99

Years ago when I was traveling to Thailand, I purchases a handcrafted bowl that looks just like this one.  Besides looking alike, my bowl is very heavy and was nowhere near the great price that this one is.

I love the hammered detail and the gold interior and think it would look great on a coffee table or bookcase shelf.

LÖNSBODA Scented candle in glass IKEA When the candle has burned itself out the glass cup can be used as a tealight holder.

Lansboda Scented Candle–$3.99

After writing my Pops Of Pink post yesterday, I can’t help but be smitten with this beautiful candle.  The faceted glass gives it a high-end look and the candle scent is pretty great too!  Can’t beat a pretty candle for $3.99!

BÄRBAR Tray IKEA

BarBar Tray–$7.99

I purchased some ugly plastic trays at the thrift store awhile back for $1.00 and have visions of turning them into something like these.  The stripes are so fresh for spring and there are a thousand and one ways you could use these trays for decorating or entertaining.

p.s.  I think MOM would love to have breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day, served on one of these trays.

GODTA Mug IKEA

Godta Mug–$2.99

Drinking coffee or tea every morning from one of these mugs is sure to put a smile on your face.  If I were giving a set of these as a gift, I’d pair it with these napkins and this box of tea!

BEDÅRANDE Beer glass with stem IKEA

Bedarande Glass–$5.99

Oh how I love this, let me count the ways!  These smoke grey goblets are simply gorgeous.  The glass is a great weight and the style is beautiful.  I can see these at a table set with white and silver china.

There are so many great items at IKEA, at great prices, which makes shopping their store so much fun.  If love like IKEA as much as I do, you’ll also want to check out this Kitchen Cart, the Expedit Shelving in high-gloss red (stunning) and this $19.99 throw.

And, if you don’t have an IKEA in your area, don’t worry ’cause all of these items can be ordered on-line!

Happy Shopping!
