Do you know what happens when you have a picture of an item in your head…..

West Elm Sculptural Sphere

followed by a major clean out of your craft room which yields a handful of raw embroidery hoops?

You create an easy DIY Sphere, that’s what happens!

This is such a simple project.

Supplies:
2 Embroidery Hoops
Gold Spray Paint
10 minutes

Pull your embroidery hoops apart and spray paint the inside out outside of each ring.  Once dry intersect the rings to create your sphere.

I left the screw pins on my hoops so I could tighten two of the rings to keep the sphere from coming apart.

Design Trend: Basket Lights

Baskets are one of my favorite decorative elements and I have them all over my house.  They are good for holding things, hiding things, storing things and can even be used to make a bigger and bolder statement in your home.

How about a basket light?

Open weave baskets will allow plenty of light to show through.

Over a table, a tight weave basket hung low will allow the light to flood the table surface.

Even small baskets can be turned into cute pendant lights.

Large baskets are a great way to add a decorative element to a larger room when they are not the only light source.

You know those flopping baskets you see in stores, they make the cutest light pendants.

I love the look of hanging basket lights over an island.  The perfect charming rustic detail.

In a covered outdoor space, baskets are a great way to bring the textures of the outdoors into a living space.

So cute.  Painted baskets are just adorable in a baby’s room.

The Right Way to Do Monograms

92f3948cb27b0ab028ea997f8a094dac

Ever since moving to the south in 2000 I’ve developed an obsession for monograms.  I’ll never be one of those people who has a monogrammed car decal or a full set of luggage with a monogram (unless of course it’s a full set of Louis Vuitton)  but I do love monograms for linens, personal items, decorative accessories and some furniture.

Let’s Get Crafty: Fancy Straws

My hubby typically doesn’t eat breakfast during the week but since Valentine’s Day is Friday I’m planning a simple little treat for him made even more special because of a little crafting project I completed.

Slide1

On the menu is a fruit cup, his favorite muffins and a fruit smoothie.
I thought it would be fun to create special straws for us to drink from, of course made with love.

Supplies:

Fancy Paper Straws
Martha Stewart Heart Punch
Colored Paper (I used paint chips from the hardware store)
Valentine’s embellishments
Scotch Tape
Scotch Mounting Tape

Punch hearts from your colored paper (or free paint chips)
Cut 1/4″ wide paper strips long enough to fit around the straw, tape strip ends to create a paper band
Attach Valentine’s embellishments to hearts using mounting tape

This is what the paper band will look like.

Slip embellished hearts over straws and enjoy your beverage.

After breakfast slip the embellished heart off the straw and throw the used straw away. The embellished heart is ready for the next celebration! {Valentine’s cocktails}!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Bucket of Love

Happy Friday.  I’ve got a fun little Valentine’s craft for you today.

My sweetie loves to snack and his snack of choice is anything in the NUT family.  My friend Robyne knows his obsession because anytime she makes a batch of her delicious cookies for us she has to make some special for the Mr. with nuts in them.

This year one of the gifts I’ll be giving my guy of 22 years is a handcrafted Bucket of Love, filled with nuts!

This was a super easy and quick project and would work as a great Valentine’s gift container for anyone on your love list.

I’ve Been Busy…

One of the good things about having more than one passion is that you stay busy. With three maybe four things I’m really passionate about,  you can only imagine how busy I’ve been since the new year.

Sunny Days Ahead, Crafting and My Bucket List

IM. SO. EXCITED!

I’m on a plane to warm weather (80 degrees), I’m headed to a new adventure and I’m checking something off my bucket list!

Today’s the day when I’m headed to the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) show in Los Angeles.  I will be representing Craffiti, a leading manufacturer of crafting stamps and embossing plates as their creative artist.  The CHA show is the mega show where all things craft come together under one roof.  All of the craft supply manufacturers as well as the industries leading crafters, bloggers and artist will be there and I am so honored and thrilled to be included in that group.
Over Christmas, while visiting my mom, I was busy getting my craft on.  I was making projects that will be on display at the Craffiti booth, using the new and innovative embossing plates that Craffiti is manufacturing.  While on site at the booth, I’ll be showing attendees at the show how the embossing plates work and creating make-n-take projects for them to take with them.
Here a just a few of the paper projects I created for Craffiti.

Easy Holiday Gift Wrap Idea–Pom Pom Ties

I started wrapping gifts last night and decided to change things up a bit and not rely solely on ribbon to finish off my gifts.  Given my love of ribbon I know this must be shocking but what I came up with adds a bit of fun and whimsy to my gifts.
