Eat, Drink and Be Merry Gift Bag
It’s the holiday season and that means gift giving time. One of my go-to gift wrapping supplies during the busy holiday season is gift bags. I usually don’t but the pre-decorated bags but instead opt to decorate my own to create something unique and special for my family or friends.
Gift bags + Craffiti Direct Stamps = Stylish Holiday Gift Packaging
To create this gift bag I started with a simply brown Kraft bag. I love the look of Kraft paper with traditional Christmas colors.
I then used my circle cutter to cut 4″ dia circles from red tartan plaid paper and white card stock.
Next I used one of the Yes Chef stamps designed by Jennifer Garant and stamped the chef on wheels in the center of my white cardstock circle. I then added some color to the design using Prima Markers and hand scripted the Eat, Drink and Be Merry message along the bottom. A classic red and white diamond print ribbon finishes off the circle.
The last step was layering the plaid and stamped circles onto the front of the gift bag and adding a red pom-pom as my bow.
This fun gift bag is being filled with libations and treats and I know the person receiving this will definitely Eat, Drink & Be Merry!
If you’re doing any holiday crafting this season, check of the full line of Craffiti Direct Stamps. There are so many wonderful designs to choose from and right now they are running a 25% off sale on all stamps.
I’m using one of these stamps to make some of my holiday gift tags and this stamp to make some New Years party invites. I’ll share those projects with you next week.
Happy Holiday Crafting!
I was sent the stamps by Craffiti Direct for use in creating these projects. All designs were by ConfettiStyle.
The Bells Will Be Ringing
Christmas is here and the Bells Will Be Ringing at my house!
One of my favorite signs of the holiday season is the sound of bells. There is just something about that little chime that makes the world seem more magical and the holiday season more endearing.
I often use jingle bells as part of my holiday décor must like I did in 2011 with the DIY ornaments I made.
Christmas 2011
This year I decided to get crafty and create a Jingle Bell Holiday Door Hanger. Every time the door opens I hear the bells ring and feel the spirit of the season come alive.
To make my Jingle Bell Door Hanger I used the following supplies:
Jute Webbing (available at Hobby Lobby) Small Embroidery Ring Copper Jingle Bells Holly and Berry Candle Rings (available at Hobby Lobby) Ant. Bronze Brads (purchased at Michael’s) Paint your embroidery hoop red Cut webbing to desired length Loop top of webbing around the embroidery hoop and secure with brads Cut candle rings so the ring can be opened wide Glue candle ring to top of embroidery hoop Hot glue bells down center of webbingHang your door hanger and listen for the magic of Christmas!
Holiday Tip: This jute webbing is also great to wrap around boxes for a simple holiday gift wrap.
Best of Etsy: FOXY Gift Guide
Last year it was the Owl. This year the icon of the fall and holiday season is the FOX! Target made a big statement with fox merchandise for the holiday season and it seems to be selling quickly. Hum, wonder if it has anything to do what that song that is topping the music charts?
t-shirt available at Target (men’s dept)
I happen to love all the fox products the stores are selling but wondered what great hand-made or vintage fox items we available on Etsy. So, I do what I do best and went shopping for you. I rounded up my favorite fox themed items and are bringing them to you in the first of my Holiday Gift Guides!
Enjoy and stay foxy!

Gift Wrap Inspiration using a leftover sweater!
As you know I love wrapping gifts and I try to be creative with every gift I wrap. After completing my Cable Knit Table I had the rest of the sweater lying around and was looking for a fun way to use it. A few cuts with the scissors, some ribbon and a few embellishments and I had the makings for some fun and easy holiday gift wrapping.
Old sweaters and patterned shirts are an inexpensive way to wrap gifts and make them unique.
I used the sleeve of the sweater to create a gift bag for a wine bottle. The top was tied with a red and white striped ribbon and a snowy white felt flower was attached as a fun embellishment. I’m working on a project using the felt flowers and will unveil that to you soon.
Wrapping a tubular item with paper can be a bit tricky on the ends but a sweater or fabric piece makes the wrapping easy. The cable knit pattern looks great in a circular format and tying up the ends of the sweater piece with pretty ribbon is as easy as it gets.
For this last gift, which fit into a small box, I used a piece of the sweater to wrap the box just like I would with paper. Because the wrapping was a sweater I thought the addition of a paper mitten gift tag was the perfect embellishment for the top. Can you guess what’s inside the box….(gloves maybe)!
Gift Wrapping Tips Using Clothing:
* Use pieces of clothing that have visual interest like a texture or pattern * To keep the ends of cut fabric from fraying, trim the edges with pinking sheers * Double sided tape will work well with most light weight fabrics. For thick or textured fabric, use a dab of hot glue to hold the edges down. * Incorporate details of the clothing piece into your wrap…buttons, pockets, collars and such Before you toss out any old sweaters or pieces of clothing, take a look and see how you could use them as creative gift wrapping.Happy Wrapping!
DIY Sweater Top Table
It’s not everyday that I jump on a design trend but after writing about the trend of cable knits in this post, I decided I loved the look and wanted to do a little diy project so I could add this trendy style statement to my home for fall.
This cute flea market table (actually its a stool) was the starting point
and after covering it in a thrift store cable knit sweater and adding nail heads it looks like this.
The perfect little beverage table for fall.
The table had a wood top and metal legs and it folds up flat for storage (bonus)!
The table is the perfect size to sit next to a chair and the top is the perfect size for mug of hot chocolate and a favorite book.
I used antique bronze nail heads I picked up at Hobby Lobby ($4.99 less 40%) to detail the top edge and I painted the tips of the legs antique bronze to make the table a bit more sassy!
It took me and my husband working together to get the nail heads positioned and nailed in. But if you want to try this, my friend Tina shared a great tip for placing nail heads on a rounded surface. Cut a piece of plastic cross-stitch mesh to fit your surface area and use the open squares as a guide for placing your nail heads. Brilliant!
I couldn’t be more pleased with my table and I absolutely love the texture of the cable knit and the cozy touch it adds for fall.
Cost Breakdown: Flea Market Stool $4.00 Cable Knit Sweater (Goodwill) $4.97 less 50% Nail heads (Hobby Lobby) $4.99 less 40% Ant. Bronze Rub-n-Buff (from my stash) Total cost less than $ 10.00 design tip: never pass up a small stool, bench or table if it’s a good price because they can be used in so many areas and in so many ways. I’m using the rest of the cable knit sweater on a few other projects and will show you those soon.Tools of the Trade
Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was a good one. Here in Atlanta we experienced the first fall chill which was perfect for a weekend for nesting and doing some crafting.
Since I do a lot of crafting, my crafting cabinet is filled with lots of tools of the trade like scissors, glue, paint, punches and glitter. I also have a paper-cutter which I use when I’m working on paper and card projects. A few weeks ago my trusty paper-cutter crashed and burned and I was left using scissors as my only method to cut paper.
My arsenal of scissors worked ok but I was in need of a paper-cutter for the many projects I’m working on. Well, you know how they saying goes…ask and you shall receive!
Just when I was about to go out and buy a paper-cutter, I was contacted by YescomUSA about trying one of their new home products. YescomUSA is an online superstore that sells a wide variety of products ranging from photo equipment and gardening tools to outdoor décor and toy & hobby equipment. I took YescomUSA up on their offer and they sent me their 15″ Guillotine Paper Cutter. Just what I needed!
Let me just tell you this is one amazing paper-cutter! Some of the features I like most about this paper-cutter are the steel base which makes the piece sturdy when cutting, the lockable cutting arm, the ruler and paper grid markings and the surface it will accommodate a 15″ paper size (which my old cutter would not).
The paper-cutter couldn’t have come at a better time because I’m in the process of creating new products for my Etsy shops, all of which involve lots of paper cutting.
I’m making cute banner gift tags
and have cut lots of paper to make holiday coasters.
The 15″ Guillotine Paper Cutter is the entry-level paper-cutter available from YescomUSA and sells for $39.99. If you do a major amount of cutting and or need an industrial strength paper-cutter, they offer those too, ranging in price from $175 to $320. You can see all the paper-cutter styles here.
Thanks YescomUSA for coming to the rescue with such a great product!
This post was sponsored by YescomUSA but all opinions are my own.
Fall Tablescape Inspired by a Woodworker
Do you have one of those friends whose talent is just off the scale?
The kind of friend that possesses a skill as a sculptor or ice carver or something that blows you mind every time you see their work?
Well, I happen to have several of those friends but one in particular happens to have some mad woodworking skills. He is so good at crafting things from wood that every time I see him I find myself saying the words “that’s amazing” about 100 times.
Meet my friend Jeff.
Along with managing a woodworking store and building all types of amazing things for folks around Atlanta, Jeff is in the process of setting up an Etsy shop to sell some of the smaller decorative pieces that he makes.
Not too long ago Jeff and I were having lunch and he was telling me about these candle holder centerpieces he was making. He described them to me and based on his description alone, I knew I had to get my hands on one and use it as part of a fall tablescape.
Here’s the piece that Jeff created. It a chunky slab of wood that has multiple circular holes that can hold different styles of glass vases and candle holders. I love that the piece is large and substantial and the versatility of the holes makes it even that much cooler.
The piece is crafted of mahogany and has a dark stain finish.
And here’s the Fall tablescape I created inspired by this beautiful centerpiece, made by my friend Jeff, a master Woodworker!
Instead of a fabric tablecloth, I decided to use this faux bois gold and white gift wrap I picked up at HomeGoods. Isn’t it just awesome? The pattern plays beautifully with the handcrafted wood centerpiece and the width is perfect as a wide table runner.
The wood centerpiece was a great size for the center of my table and offers just enough height so that it won’t interfere with conversation across the table.
Again the really cool thing about this centerpiece is that it can hold different types of candle holders and small glass vases. The holes are about 2″ in dia. and about 3/4″ deep so any container in that size works. Lots of the candle cups available at Ikea are the perfect size.
My place settings also included wood. The square wood charger plates I found at a consignment store. I layered square white plates (purchased last year at HomeGoods) on top of the charger and then added floral napkins from Target. They were one of the clearance items I recently picked up (4 for $4.88). The gold-plated silverware was given to me by my mom and it coordinates great with the gold of the paper tablecloth.
Instead of using just candles in the centerpiece, I used a combination of candles, flowers and mini pumpkins.
Small glass votive cups hold bouquets of fresh flowers and I painted the mini pumpkins gold and white.
The taper candles are placed in flared glass candle cups that fit perfectly into the holes.
You all know I’m big on layering my décor and a table setting is no different. Layers are what give the tablescape depth and dimension and the mix of materials and finishes add visual impact.
My fall table was really quick to pull together and Jeff’s centerpiece was the perfect starting point for it all. I love the way the entire table turned out.
I know Jeff is working on lots of other items for his shop so I’ll be sure to share more of them soon and let you know when is shop is open for business.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you’re enjoying fall as much as I am.
