Christmas Stockings with a Twist

Who says Christmas Stockings have to be stockings?  This year I opted to change things up a bit and used cloth bins as Christmas Stockings for my family.

These cute bins are sold in a set of three at Ikea for $7.99.  Each of the small gifts inside were wrapped either in tissue paper or gift wrap scraps.  The glitter letters are from Wal-Mart and came with the metal curly hanger.

I love that these “stockings” are not only different but that the bins can be used long after Christmas.  I love a thrifty Christmas!

Did anyone else do some unique for their Christmas stockings this year?

Bits of Inspiration: Vintage Christmas

I am in full Christmas decorating mode for clients this week, and in the evenings I’m working on all kinds of holiday projects around my house.

I mentioned before that my Christmas decor this year will be a mix of burlap, red, mercury glass and music themed elements.

Even with my theme set, I’m finding myself smitten and inspired by all the Vintage Christmas decor I’m seeing in blogland.   I love the mix of natural elements, the texture and all the shine and shimmer.  I’m so inspired, I’ve decided I’ll be making my version of many of these ideas to incorporate into my decor.

The Stockings Were Hung…

When it comes to decorating for the holidays, beautiful Christmas Stockings are an essential item on my decorating list.  And, because I try to change-up my Christmas decorating theme each year, I’ve unknowingly become a “collector” of Christmas Stockings.

Here’s a round-up of my favorite holiday stockings and a few fabulous mantle photos to inspire your holiday decorating.

Andrea Carone, of Inspired Living designed these fabulous stocking (above and below).  I love how elegant, yet whimsical it is.  You can check out more of Andrea’s beautiful stockings at her Etsy site, here!

In one of the homes I decorated this year, animal print ribbon was used on the tree.  I fell in love with the look and then I saw these to-die-for stockings.  Next year my holiday theme may just to have a touch of animal print in it.

Who says a holiday stocking has to be shaped like a boot?  I love the look of this whimsical mantle, using knit mittens as stocking stand-ins.

These Mackenzie Childs stockings are too cute for words.  I love the jewel tone colors, embellishments around the cuff and that adorable puff ball on the tip of the toe.  Available at Neiman Marcus

On many of the blogs I read, I’m seeing a trend in all white Christmas decor.  I love the clean, fresh love of this color statement.  The tree above is simple but so beautiful, and the stockings below are just dreamy.

In my book, the more lush your mantle garland, the better.

I think this mantle decor is stunning.  I love the combination of antique mirrors and brown and white transferware.
