The Pinterest 100: Style; Game-changing throwback sneaks like the Stan Smith gold toe by Adidas are all the rage.

August 2015 Inspiration Notebook

IMG_0138

Cheers to the weekend and hello August!

Hard to image that 7 months of the year have flown by and that Christmas is just 4 months away!

I’m excited to welcome August in a new way.  A few days ago on Instagram, I shared my plans to create an Inspiration Notebook.  My goal for the notebook is to have it serve as a visual diary of things that I’m admiring,  projects I’m working on and ideas that have inspired me.

My notebook was inspired by the editor’s page in House Beautiful where Newell Turner, editor-in-chief creates a vision board and shares a personal note about what’s inspiring him along with highlights from the current issue of the magazine.

So as fall approaches and the last bits of summer are enjoyed, I hope you have big plans for August and I hope you enjoy my Inspiration Notebook!

Fashion Focus: Creating a Signature Style

ba92e6ee25f39436d2967f5c5d9213e2

I like to think that over the years I’ve developed somewhat of a signature fashion style–a fashion sense that speaks to who I am and what I’m about.  My signature style revolves around the silhouettes, style details and colors that I like to wear and that make me feel good, comfortable and my best self. My signature style conveys a lot about my personality and influences the way that I carry myself and interact to others.

Beach Bum!

Hello there!  We’ll, all good things must come to an end and our 1st summer vacation was officially over last night!  Bummer!  I am already missing the beach, the sand, the sunrises and sunsets and just doing nothing!  I could easily live the life of a beach bum but work and responsibilities are calling.  I’m going to ease back into the work week (which of course is slammed with to-do’s) and take one more opportunity to relive our vacation.  Join me why don’t you!

This was our first time visiting Jacksonville, Florida and it did not disappoint!

The sunrises were spectacular…

as were the sunsets.

The palm trees were ginormous…

and the sand was soft and filled with beautiful seashells.

The dolphins came out to play.  The morning that we were leaving there must have been 20 or more just off the shoreline.

Even when the skies were grey the beach was beautiful!

One day we made the 40 minute drive over to St. Augustine, the oldest city in the nation.  OMG is this city stunning.

Some of the most beautiful architecture I’ve ever seen.

You can see the Spanish influences in the colors and details of the buildings.

St. Augustine has one of the oldest churches in American with the largest collection of Tiffany stained glass windows.

The bay was filled with beautiful sail boats and ships.

We stopped by the oldest home in Florida.

One of the stops on the trolley ride we took was at this winery and distillery.  Funny how most of the passengers got off here to take the tour and do some sampling!

A beautiful peacock perched on an entrance post!

IMG_9359

You never know who’s looking!

IMG_9231

Of course I had to do some antique shopping while on vacation.  We popped into about 10 antique/thrift store and I found a few treasures.

If you ever visit St. Augustine be aware that they know there antiques in this city.  The collections are vast and the prices can be steep but there are treasures to be found.

We had a great time on vacation and it can be summed up by the beauty of this image.

3 Ways to Create A Poolside Retreat Without The Pool

Hello there!  I hope you had a great weekend and are easing back in to the work week.  My mind is still on weekend mode but my to-do list isn’t giving me any time to play this week.  Since I can’t get away in person I’m going to use the power of visualization to transport me to a relaxing poolside retreat.

How magnificent would it be to spend the day poolside in a space like this?  A perfect spot of an impromptu party or simply relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book.

This is definitely taking poolside to a new level.  My dream spot for sure.

I love the idea of a little cabana set into the trees.

Ok, back to reality!  For those of us that don’t have a beautiful pool outside our back door or can get away to luxurious beach resort, here are a couple of easy decorating ideas that will help you create your own personal outdoor retreat.

No. 1 –CREATE A MOBILE BAR

A barcart makes every outdoor space feel like a relaxing getaway.  Believe it or not, this stylish barcart is an IKEA hack and turned an inexpensive piece into a show stopper.

No.2–CHAISE INSTEAD OF CHAIRS

If you want to create a relaxing  retreat at home, forego the standard outdoor patio chairs and opt for a beautiful chaise lounge.  A plush cushion and a reclined chair are the formula for instant relaxation.

No. 3–CREATE COZINESS WITH A CABANA

One of the signature elements of every luxury beach side hotel and resort is a stylish cabana.  With a little DIY work you can create a beautiful tented structure in your own backyard.

The official start to summer is almost here–is your backyard retreat ready to go?

Living Large in a Small Space

Happy Monday!  I’m wishing everyone a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on this beautiful St. Patrick’s Day.

The post I shared last week about Nate Berkus and his skill of decorating small spaces couldn’t have been timed any better.  I’ve got a real life small space challenge on my mind.

Do you remember when you went off to college and stepped into your dorm room for the first time?  All I could think was how small the space was and how in the world was I ever going to fit all my clothes into that closet. My dorm room looked a little like this.

Living in a  dorm room was my first experience with small space living.  My roommate Kathy and I decorated our dorm room as best we could–hung posters, rearranged furniture and added a rug.  It was a pretty space but no where close to how dorm rooms are looking these days.

Party Inspiration: Pink & Green

Cheers to Monday!  I hope your weekend was good.  My weekend was very productive.  I spent a lot of time purging my magazine collection (only 20 more to go) and have lots of new inspiration photos to file way and new DIY projects to add to the to-do list.  I also cleaned the carpet, started working on some new gift wrap inspiration and an easy fashion accessory DIY project which I’ll share with you later this week. With all the time I’ve spent indoors, I’m itching to go thrifting and the timing couldn’t be any better since the Scott’s Antique Market is this weekend.

One of the other things I did this weekend was to play around with some party theme ideas.  Since summer is winding down I came up with a party theme using colors that are perfect for transitioning from summer to fall.  Just in cast you want to have an impromptu gathering before summers over I hope this inspires you.
