Style and Function: Desk as Nightstand

As a designer, I love to design a space that is encompasses style and function, allowing a room to become multifunctional.  One of my favorite style meets function looks is utilizing a desk as a nightstand alternative.

When a desk replaces a traditional nightstand, not only are you creating a unique design statement within the bedroom but the space takes on an even more personal and intimate feel.

This old school desk becomes really stylish with a coat of white paint, updated pulls and a ceramic garden seat as a chair alternative.

I love the look of a large secretary next to the bed.  The drop down shelf is the perfect spot for nightstand necessities and a spot for guest to write out postcards, read or journal.

When using a desk as a nightstand, don’t try to match the look on both sides of the bed.  A chest of drawers opposite balances the weight of the desk.

This small rattan bench gives this desk night stand a light and airy feel. When tucked under the desk it will just look like an accent to complete the look.

A substantial and heavy desk like this is a great option when your headboard is heavy and oversized.  Plus, a desk with drawers turns a nightstand into the perfect vanity.

A lucite desk is great when you want the space to visually feel open and airy.

I love how this desk blends into the wall and how the bookcases were incorporated to create an intimate work  space within the bedroom.  The bookcase alcove looks  like a large piece of art!

Another beautiful lucite desk option!

A parsons desk next to the bed is simple and modern.

A vintage desk is a great way to add architectural interest while still keeping the function.  I adore this old rustic desk.

I’ve never had the perfect bedroom setup to use a desk as a nightstand but I’m hoping one day I can make it happen.

So, what do you think of the desk as a nightstand look?  Love it or leave it??

Just a Few Things

Happy Monday!  I hope all of you are enjoying the fabulous long weekend and spending some time doing things you love or just enjoying some R & R on the last weekend of Summer.   I thought I’d pop in today to share a few things that caught my eye over the weekend.

Enjoy and be inspired!

Loving this fall gift wrap inspiration!

I saw this book at Pottery Barn and just had to order it for myself!

The hubs and I are planning an October trip to this gorgeous beach destination!  I need one last walk on the beach before the year is over!

I love the look of these spaces using brick pavers!

I took advantage of this great sale and bought some of these!

The rest of my week is filled with meetings, project work, planning a design workshop and a trip to Scott Antique Market.  It’s gonna be a good week!

Attention To Details

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone is set to make this week a great one!

For me, this week is all about the details…lots of big and little projects to cross off the list and all of them involve making the little things count.

Just like in design….

The addition of this small tray to corral perfume bottles not only give the bottles more impact but give the tabletop more style!

Tall candles create the reflection and the drama!  Shorter candles would be lost in the mix.

Cording, trim and nailheads add the finishing touch!

Even the detail of the chevron pattern bricks inside the firebox add to the style of this room.

It could have stopped at the bottom of the stairs and been a straight finish but the details make this spectacular!

Not just your ordinary curtain tieback!

Room of the Week–A Stylish Porch

The Perfect Outdoor Space with Indoor Style!

With Summer in full swing (and winding down soon) a stylish porch like this one is the perfect spot to laze away the days.  What makes this porch so inviting are the indoor details that were brought outside to make this space a true extension to the overall living space of the home.

The windows behind the sofa provide the perfect backdrop and visual impact that traditional wall decor would.  The mirror adds to the charm providing a beautiful reflection of the space and the iron light fixtures, in triplicate, add style by day and ambience by night.

I love that the homeowner didn’t stray away from using textiles to add softness and brought in versatile furniture pieces like the ceramic garden seat and rustic wood coffee table.

The is a perfect space to lounge, entertain and simply enjoy the lazy days of summer!

Perfect in every way!

5 Things I Can’t Live Without

Last night I attended an alumni event for the University of Louisville with my brother at this gorgeous house, owned by a prominent doctor and pilot here in Atlanta.  The property was amazing and the inside was beyond  incredible… just envision lots of beautiful textiles, antiques, amazing furniture, Carrera marble floors and so much more.  I wish I could have taken pics to show you.

As I mingled with guest I struck up a conversation with a woman and over the course of our conversation we ended up talking about things in our lives that we can’t live without. It’s enlightening to hear about someone elses life and what makes them happy and joyful.

I shared some of the things I can’t live without and to give you a little peek into my life, I thought I’d highlight 5 Things I Can’t Live Without here on the blog today!

 Nouvelle Candles

Nouvelle 11 oz. Candle - Crepe Myrtle

If you’ve followed my blog for a while you know I love candles and have one burning just about every day at home.  My favorite candle of all times is the Nouvelle Crepe Myrtle candle.  I love the strong floral scent and that the scent burns clean and is strong all the way to the end.  No wasted candle here!

Here’s how Nouvelle describes their CREPE MYRTLE candle:   Narcotic in its allure, a landmark in southern landscapes for centuries. This unique intermingling of white honeysuckle, light citrus and exotic green wood is truly captivating. Our best selling fragrance.

You can buy Nouvelle candles here!

Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Body Creme

Cashmere Mist Bath and Body Collection

I think every girl needs a signature scent and for me it’s Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist.  I wear both the fragrance and body creme everyday!  I wish you could smell the scent through the screen but take my word for it, it’s amazing and sexy.  Head here to check out all the Cashmere Mist products.

   Chobani  Greek Yogurt

Just about every morning I start the day with this oh so yummy yogurt and a cup of green tea in one of these adorable tea cups (below).

Handpainted Tea Cups

I add a little granola to my Chobani Yogurt (my favorite flavor is the Apple and Cinnamon) and enjoy a hot cup of tea in one of these mugs from Anthropologie.  Last year at Christmas, one of these mugs was on my wish-list and over the course of the year, I’ve massed a collection of them in different patterns.  They make me happy!

And, finally…

My To-Do List and Clipboard!

I am an organizer and can’t start my week without my to-do list outlined…it’s a Sunday evening ritual.  I stumbled upon this free downloadable to-do list early in the year and love it to death!  It makes outlining all the things that need to get done in my life quick and easy.  And, to keep my list and papers close at hand, I use one of my handcrafted clipboards.  I carry my clipboard everywhere with me and love that it adds a little style to my organization.  This awesome To-Do list is courtesy of A Pair of Pears and you can download it from here!  And, if you want a chic clipboard of your own, head over to the ConfettiStyle Design Etsy shop here!

So there you have it…5 Things I Can’t Live Without.  While they may be little things, they are things that make my days a life sparkle!

What things can’t you live without?  I love to know so do share!

Design Trend: Fiddle Leaf Fig Trees

One of my design mantras is that every home needs a touch of nature as part of the decor.  There is just something about how greenery can make a room come to life.

The latest trend in house plants is the Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree.  You are seeing this beautiful, leafy plant all over Pinterest and in just about every shelter magazine out there.  I love the dramatic impact and the sculptural design element that it adds to a room.

The Fiddle Fig is a sure fire way to add style & a touch of nature to your decor!

Room of The Week: Cottage Living

The older I get the less formality I seem to seek in my life.  A casual room like this appeals to my sense of comfort and relaxation without losing a bit of style!  The light wood walls are the perfect backdrop for the cozy linen fabrics, wicker furniture and natural flooring.  All of these design elements work in perfect harmony to create a space that’s easy to live in.

What a dream retreat!
