Color Crush: Blue and Green

Blue and Green Color Palette

via

I’ve been working with a new client and their design project is really exciting because it involves one of my favorite color crushes…blue and green.

While navy has always been a much-used color in home decor, it has been resurfacing as a hot color trend over the last couple of years.  And ever since Pantone named Emerald Green as their color of the year in 2013, shades of green have been making a comeback as one of the top home decor fashion colors.

What I like about the combination of blue and green is the sophisticated yet modern feel that pairing has.

On a recent fabric shopping trip, I spotted some really beautiful blue and green fabrics I wanted to share with you.  I’ve grouped the designs together in workable sets that can easily be combined within a single room design.  Here’s how I’d use each of the fabrics within the groupings:

Adding Color To Your Decor.001

As someone who loves color and loves to decorate with it, I sometimes find it hard to relate to someone who expresses a color phobia to me.  I was recently working with a client where color in their book equated to having different shades of brown within a room.  Yes, different shades of brown is a color combination and bright  colors aren’t for everyone but I do believe that color can work magic within a room if approached correctly.

Jenny Wolf

I came across this image when I was looking at photos from interior designers homes.  This cozy little corner belongs to Jenny Wolf, a New York based designer who once worked for Ralph Lauren.  What caught my attention about this space was the beautiful soft pink chair and the vase full of seeded eucalyptus.  The rest of the home which you can see here is also filled with great details.

And be sure to check out these links, which I’m sure you’ll love.

Trend Spotlight: Patterned Lampshades

Patterned Lampshades.001
Printed Lampshades
Melodi Horne, London

The other day I was flipping through some magazines and I started to notice a design trend that appears to be coming back in a strong way–patterned lampshades. While I don’t think patterned lampshades ever went completely out of style, the last few years it’s been all about neutral, white and black shades.

When you look back at the history of patterned lampshades, I think they have gotten a back rap and are associated with old-fashion, dated decor. Given the right setting and in the right pattern, lampshades with a pattern are be a fabulous design accent.  If you’re not already, here’s a few inspirational photos to get your on board with this trend…

Valentine's Day Gift Guide.002.jpeg.002

Most of the time when I feature a gift guide, especially a Valentine’s Day Gift Guide, I feature gifts for her and gifts for him.  This time around I’m changing things up and doing a gift guide that features gifts for anyone you love, regardless of their gender.

I thought it was going to be challenging to find gifts to fit this feature but once I started checking out my favorite sites I came up with some pretty awesome gift ideas, several of which I snapped up myself.

Happy shopping!

{Storage} Product + Inspiration: Raskog Utility Cart

Raskog Utility Cart.001.jpeg.001.jpeg.001.jpeg.001

Raskog--Dark Grey Raskog--Beige

I don’t know what it is about a new year that makes us all want to declutter and organize our homes.  As part of this yearly ritual, I’m always on the hunt for easy storage solutions and one of my go-to shopping sources is always Ikea.

Every time I shop Ikea I ponder purchasing the Raskog Utility Cart.  This cute little storage cart is just one of those pieces that you can image using in a thousand different ways around the house  And the $29.99 price point makes it even more attractive.

To convince myself and maybe you too, I’ve rounded up some photos showing different ways this storage cart can be styled.

CREATIVE IDEAS USING THE RASKOG UTILITY STORAGE CART

When space is tight, the Raskog cart makes an ideal side table and the three storage shelves can hold an array of items for quick access.

I love the idea of using this cart in the kitchen to hold cooking supplies you use frequently.  When not in use the cart and be pushed into a corner or tucked into a pantry closet.

Raskog--Kitchen

Use the cart to hold functional and decorative accessories in the kitchen.  It’s a great spot to place potted herbs.

And when more space is needed, just double up on the cart storage.

The barcart trend continues to be strong and the Raskog cart is fun for a small cocktail station.  And the perfect piece to hold cocktail or cookbooks.

And if the turquoise, beige or dark gray color options don’t work with you decor, this cart is easy to spray paint for a custom look.

And another selling point is the ability to hang magnetic rods and buckets on the cart for even more storage options.

Raskog--Bar

Use the cart to towels and toiletries in a guest bathroom.

The idea of all my cleaning supplies in one place just might have persuaded me to buy the Raskog cart.

The cart makes a pretty cute storage shelf for seasonal footwear and fashion accessories.

And for all you crafters and sewers out there, this cart has endless possibilities for storage and organization.  The mobility makes the cart easy to move around your craft space or even to another room in your house.

I love how the Raskog easily tucks into a closet space and under shelving.

Mount the top bin upside down to create a solid working station for a sewing machine, laptop or office equipment.

There are lots of storage carts on the market but in my book the Raskog Utility Cart is one of the best and definitely one of the more versatile pieces you can buy.
