Feeling Uneasy With My Artwork

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh9

The other night I was sitting on the couch and looked around at my walls.  I have several gallery wall arrangments that are a mix of art and objects.  As I looked at the walls, I began to feel unsettled with the eclectic mix and the random arrangement.  A desire for a more calm, symmetrical and orderly look washed over me.

My design style is eclectic with classic undertones so I was surprised at the feelings I had when I looked at the walls.  I think the need for order and calm is stemming from my life at the moment where I’m juggling lots of balls, can’t get it all done in a day and longing for a quiet weekend getaway.

What’s a girl to do with this artwork dilemma and feeling of uneasiness?

Block out a weekend to unwind (unfortunately it can’t happen for a few weeks) and turn to Pinterest for some wall decor inspiration.

As I was looking through Pinterest, I came across these images where artwork was hung in a grid fashion providing organized and calm feel.  I like the look of art hung in a grid but am not 100% sure whether this is the look that I want.  Regardless, these images are inspiring me to make some changes to my wall decor.

My thoughts….

I love the tight grouping and a single frame choice but don’t know if I can commit to one style of art.

Tight Art Grouping

The impact of a grid arrangement is great so that’s a plus in my book.

If the color of each artwork piece is similar that can be the thread that ties it all together.

I love the look of this eclectic mix of art but don’t think it’s exactly my style.

This arrangement is nice because it is still symmetrical but has a bit more personality than artwork all in the same size.

Artwork Grid4

Grid layouts definitely work with black and white art but not my style.

Artwork Grid5
via Home Bunch

I love seeing non-traditional elements framed as a collection.  Definitely something I’d do.

Fall is a great time of year to hang framed botanical art and the look is fresh and modern.  Gets my vote.

Artwork Grid7

This image might be the solution…symmetry but frames hung both horizontally and vertically which adds a bit of an eclectic feel.

Decision, decisions!

So tell me, is the gallery wall look still appealing to you or do you love the symmetrical art arrangements?  I’d love to know what you think.

Girlfriend Gifts

Feeling Groovy Trinket Tray

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had already begun doing some Christmas shopping.  I hate to wait until the last minute when the items have been picked over and store shelves are bare.  One category of gifts that I tend to buy early is girlfriend gifts.

Finding that special gift for a girlfriend can sometimes be challenging so my method for selecting the perfect gift is to tap into that persons style.  Think about the colors the person wears, the items they decorate their home with and their passions in life.  When you look for gifts that connect to a person’s lifestyle and soul, you’ll always find the perfect piece.

Here’s a round-up of gifts that I love and that I think my girlfriends would love too.

These Jardin Des Vases are ideal for that friend that has a crush on blue and white and loves to decorate.

I have a long list of friends that would love this Brass Pineapple Dish so I’m planning to add a few to my gift closet.

If you have  friends who run their own businesses , the Morocco Madness Stationery will make them feel special and is a perfect way for them to personalize correspondence to their customers.

A cute little Trinket Dish  like this one is great for all the stylish friends on your list.

These chic Stone Stud Earrings  are for the fashionistas in your life.

My go-to gift for girlfriends or anyone for that matter is Candles and I just love this little collection from Voluspa.

Do you have a friend that needs to take a little more time for themselves?  Gift them this adorable Bird Teapot and encourage them to take a few minutes each day to do just that.

Now that you have some great gifts to consider, you’ll need a fun way to wrap them.  On Monday I’ll be sharing a chic and simple gift wrap idea with you so until then, enjoy your weekend and happy shopping.

Fabric Trends

Slide1

I’ve been on the hunt for a few fabrics and decided to take a spin through Forsyth Fabrics here in Atlanta.  Forsyth is one of my go-to sources for moderate priced designer fabrics and you’ll always find the latest fabric trends in their aisles.  Because the fabric industry is changing and manufacturers and retail stores are producing less fabric, more and more of the fabrics carried at Forsyth have to be special ordered.  Even so, they still have a good selection of cut and take fabrics so this is where I shop for personal projects I’m working on.

Let’s take a look at see what’s trending in designer fabrics…

Malachite patterns have been around for decades but really resurfaced a few years ago in textiles and decor.  This was the only malachite fabric I could find at Forstyle and even through it has to be special ordered, its definitely worth the wait.

I’ve been seeing military green showing up in fall fashion so it makes sense that it’s a big trend in upholstery fabric.  I can’t jump on this color bandwagon just yet but it might grow on me.

IMG_1881

The emerald green trend is also continuing with muted variations showing up in classic fabric patterns.

IMG_1878

I don’t think teal will ever go out of style or paisley prints for that matter.

IMG_1873

These bold colors can always be found in upholstery fabrics but they feel a bit ‘past their time’ to me.

IMG_1874

One of my favorite color combinations lately is orange and grey.  I would love to design a bedroom around these colors.

IMG_1883

The with popularity of blue and white in decor, I totally expected to see lots of navy fabrics and I did.  I really loved the middle batik inspired print which would make a beautiful pair of drapes or a chair fabric.

IMG_1872

Classic black and white with a touch of neutral, always timeless.  The zebra print is just begging to be on a pair of footstools or made into pillows.

IMG_1880

Raised relief designs are popping up more and more and these embroidered looks felt really fresh.

IMG_1877

I may be the only one but I’m kinda liking that this golden rod color is coming back into style.  That top fabric had lots of texture and was really beautiful.

IMG_1882

Forsyth Fabrics also has a clearance room where you can find short lengths of fabric and trim at great prices. I snagged remnants of these two fabrics to hoard use on a future project.

IMG_1879

IMG_1884

It’s good to have Forsyth just a short drive from my house so I can indulge my fabric habit whenever I want.

If you’re not in Atlanta, don’t worry.  You can shop all of the fabrics available at Forsyth on their website and get delivery right to your door.

Reader Survey Results

Gift Wrap Inspiration by ConfettiStyle1

Thank you to everyone that took the time to fill out the reader survey! It was great to hear from so many of you and get your feedback on the blog. I’m happy to know there is lots that you love about ConfettiStyle, excited to learn about the topics you want more of in the future and enlightened  to know which topics that aren’t your favorite.

I love sharing what I’m passionate about and providing inspiring ideas with you here on the blog and it’s my goal to do more of that as this blog grows and develops.  For now, I’ve got the survey results all wrapped up nice and pretty for you and I’m sharing some of the things I’ve got planned for the blog in the near future.

♦♦♦♦♦

The majority of you like that ConfettiStyle focuses on several different topics.

43% of you read blog post first thing in the morning while the rest of you read in the evenings. (My goal going forward is to have post up before 8:00 am each day)!

And when it comes to social media, most of you follow on Instagram and Facebookwith Pinterest coming in third. Continue to follow along as I’ve got plans to share more original content on these sites going forward.

♦♦♦♦♦

My FAVORITE blog topics on the ConfettiStyle blog are:

The vast majority (86%) like the design related blog post best, where Decorating Tips & Ideas are shared.

The second most popular blog topic was Organizing Ideas which is great to know since I love to organize and have lots more I can share on this topic.

And the next most popular topic was Gift Wrap How-to & Inspiration.  This makes my heart soar because gift wrapping is a true passion of mine and my idea bank if full with creative ideas to share with you.

♦♦♦♦♦

My LEAST favorite blog topics on ConfettiStyle are:

There was a two-way tie for the least favorite blog topic–Best of Etsy and Fashion.

I was surprised to learn the Best of Etsy series was not a favorite but I understand.  As someone who has an Etsy shop, I know I may look at the site differently than others.  In a world where there are so many amazing stores to shop from, Etsy lost out.  Based on your feedback I am discontinuing the series but want you to keep one thing in mind regarding Etsy:  Etsy is a great source of handcrafted and vintage items so when you’re shopping for a for a unique piece or want something custom-made give Etsy a chance.

And as far as the fashion post go, let’s just say I’ve closed that closet door on that topic but don’t hold it against me if I share a great fashion find or style tip from time to time.

♦♦♦♦♦

I wish ConfettiStyle would focus more on:

The response to this question was pretty clear…50% want more DIY and tutorials, 25% want more Decorating Tips & Ideas and 25% want to see more Entertaining Inspiration and How-To Tips.    These are all topics I currently share on the blog but I’ll be delivering more in the areas of tutorials and entertaining inspiration going forward.

♦♦♦♦♦

I would like to see the following added to ConfettiStyle:

Yippee!  The response to the question is what I was hoping it would be:

Over 70% of you want more Home Styling Tips so you’ll get just that.  Now that my brother is in town and a photography master, I’m hoping he can help me create some videos so I can share how-to’s in a new way.

More than 50% of you want more Budget Decorating Tips and Ideas so look for a new series coming related to this topic.

You also made it clear that you want to see more Furniture DIY and Behind The Scenes post which I can deliver.  I’ve been neglecting the stash of thrift store furniture in my garage so this gives me the motivation to tackle it.

A couple other areas that you want to see on the blog are Ask A Designer and Blog Collaborations.  I’ve always been open to answering questions I get from readers but I haven’t shared the feedback in any formal way.  I’m thinking of starting a monthly “Ask A Designer” series and hope that you’ll supply me with lots of questions to respond to.  And as far as blog collaborations go, this is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and hope to put in place for fall and holiday.  Stay tuned!

♦♦♦♦♦

How often do you want to receive post from ConfettiStyle?

It seems that 3 to 4 times a week is how often the majority of you want to receive blog post. Up until now it’s been my goal to post 5 to 6 times a week and although I’ve had some lapses I’ve posted on a regular basis.  Anyone that has a blog knows the time commitment it takes to curate content and share on a consistent basis but they also know if it’s something you love to do, it’s worth the effort.  ConfettiStyle is my baby and I love connecting with you, so it will be my goal to deliver new blog post to you 4 to 5 times a week!

♦♦♦♦♦

And finally, I asked you to share a few of the other blogs you read so I could see what other topics you enjoy.  Many of you shared blogs that I already read but there were a few ‘new-to-me’ blogs that you listed:  The Art of Doing Stuff, Gardenista and Suburban Faux Pas!  These are all great blogs so thanks for sharing them with me.

In addition to some of the blog plans I mentioned earlier in this post, I’ve also got a site redesign planned in the next month and in addition to a whole new look you’ll find an online shopping guide of all my favorite product sources.

Father’s Day Gift Wrapping Tips:

** Instead of a traditional box, wrap you gift in a unique container like a paint can or wood box.

Paint Can Gift Wrap

**  If you can’t find a masculine themed wrapping paper, get creative and use an old shirt, a piece of fabric, kraft paper or newspaper as gift wrap to keep the gift man friendly.

Newspaper giftwrap

**  Forgo pretty ribbon and use leather cording or a tie to add the finishing touch to your gift.

Leather twine ribbon

**  Instead of a paper gift tag, use a key fob as a gift tag.

Let Me Hear You Roar (please)!

Roar

Hi there my friends.  I hope you all had a great weekend and are starting the week off with a bang.

My weekend was filled with lots of stuff, much of which wasn’t on my to-do list so I’m playing catch up today.

One of the things that has been on my mind lately are a few changes I want to make here on the blog.  When I started writing ConfettiStyle almost 5 years ago my mission was to share, educate and inspire.  Here’s what I wrote on the About Page of the blog…

This is my creative home, where I write about my passion for interior design, fashion, entertaining and gifting.  In my world, it’s the little things that matter.  The perfect tabletop accessory that makes a room come to life, or that party dress that makes you feel like a million bucks every time you slip it on.  It’s friends gathered around the table for an impromptu party and the hand-written Thank You note that leaves a lasting impression.

As someone who loves all things creative, it is my goal to share with you beautiful spaces and places, inspiring design and how-to projects, unique gifts and entertaining ideas, and fabulous fashion finds.

Being Better

Over the years I’ve strayed a bit from my original mission which is easy for someone with a creative mind that never stops.  Even though I’ve gotten off-course a bit, I hope I’ve provide you with ideas, inspiration and tips to enhance your life.  As ConfettiStyle moves forward I want to make sure I’m giving you what you come to the blog looking for so I’ve created a survey to get some feedback from you, my valued readers.  I’d love if you’d take a few minutes to answer these questions and share your view of ConfettiStyle.   p.s.  the survey is completely anonymous so don’t be shy!
