A Look Back At 2017 (and some plans for the new year)

2017 Year In Review

Happy (belated) New Years!  I hope that everyone had a fabulous Christmas and ushered in the new year in style.  I had plans to blog over the Christmas holiday but just couldn’t find the motivation to sit down and write.  Instead I choose to enjoy Christmas with my family and to be honest, I really needed and treasured the break.

2017 was a busy year, both personally and professionally. The photos above show some of the highlights I experienced during the year.

The year started off with a bang (literally) when my brand new car was side-swiped by a tow truck.  Thankfully I had just gotten out the car so I walked away unharmed. It took almost 3 months for my car to be repaired and as expected we are still having some minor issues with the repairs.  I’m just blessed I wasn’t hurt and that the driver of the tow truck had good insurance.

Once 2017 got rolling, the fun started happening. The hubby and I road-tripped to Texas so I could go to the Round Top Antiques market.  My friend Marsha planned the trip which included a stay at a beautiful bed and breakfast in Salado, Texas.  Fingers crossed I’ll be able to attend Round Top again this year.

Blogging in 2017 was a little erratic.  I created some beautiful tablescapes throughout the year and started a new blog series called Product + Inspiration. My tablescape and Product + Inspiration posts were some of the top posts in 2017 so you’ll see more of that in 2018.

You all know I love to gift wrap and it was fun sharing wrapping ideas throughout the year.  I  won’t be sharing gift wrap ideas monthly but instead will be doing seasonal gift wrap posts with tips, inspiration and resource guides.

One of the highlights of my year was partnering with Steve and Jill McKenzie’s and conducting design workshops in their beautiful store.  I love doing workshops where I can inspire others with ideas for decorating, gift wrapping and living a stylish life.  I’m hoping to host more workshops around Atlanta in 2018.

In August I found out I was nominated for an Amara Interior Blog Award.  It was a great honor to be recognized.  I also enjoyed partnering with Amara on a couple of blog projects during the year.  They are one of my favorite companies and I hope to work with them again this year.

One of the most exciting things that happened in 2017 was the purchase of our new house.  We closed in July, had some renovations done and moved in the last week of August.  I still have lots of decorating to do and will be sharing the progress throughout the year.  First up is completing my office space.

In September we sailed away on a Caribbean cruise.  We traveled with a three other couples that we actually met last year on a cruise.  It’s funny how people come into your lives and how friendships are born.  We’re all planning to cruise again this year.

And before I knew it, Christmas was here and it was time to decorate.  It was so fun to decorate with my favorite colors this year and I love how it all came together.

2017 was also my final year serving as Board President for a local non-profit agency called the Community Assistance Center (CAC).  I have been on the board for 7 years and the agency is near and dear to my heart.  If you don’t already, I encourage all of you to find a way to service others and give back in 2018–it’s so fulfilling.

It’s already looking like 2018 its going to be a busy year with projects in the works, trips planned and new adventures ahead.

I’m still working on outlining my goals but have chosen CLARITY as my word of the year.   My goal is to stay laser focused on achieving and accomplishing all that I want to in 2018.

I’ll be back next week to share my 2018 blog plans so stay tune.  For now I just want to say thank you for joining me each and every day here on the bog.  Your support means the world and I hope to continue to inspire you in the new year.

ConfettiStyle Christmas Decor Theme–2016

dribbble_merry_bright

Every year I develop a design plan for my Christmas decor and share it with you here on the blog.  I create an inspiration board that gives a visual overview of the colors, patterns and tree decor that will make up my holiday decor.  Today’s the day that I’m sharing my 2016 Christmas decor theme with you before the elves (me) get to work decorating.

I also wanted to let you know that I am again hosting the Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour blog hop with Kellie from Design Asylum.  This is the 2nd year for the blog tour and it’s exciting because we have even more fabulous bloggers participating and two great brand sponsors for 2016.

So, without further a-due, here’s a look at my Merry & Bright Holiday Home Design Plan for 2016…

♦♦♦

2016 ConfettiStyle Christmas Decor Theme

The inspiration for my theme started when I spotted this Poinsettia wrapping paper from Paper Mart.  I fell in love with the design and bold but classic color combination.

2016 ConfettiStyle Christmas Decor Theme

Then I spotted Cassie’s Christmas tree on Pinterest which was decorated in all of the colors used in the wrapping paper design.  From there my plan really came together.

My Christmas tree will bold and bright and will include a mix of classic colors and pops of pink and gold.  And I’ll be throwing some black and white into the mix as well.

I’m planning to pair the poinsettia wrap with other patterns like stripes and dots and will be using a variety of ribbons to tie the colors together.

2016 ConfettiStyle Christmas Decor Theme

Another fun element I’ll be using are touches of boxwood.  I’ll be hanging a boxwood wreath from Silk Plants Direct and I’m also planning to use boxwood elements in my gift wrap and in my holiday tablescape.

I’ve ordered some pretty tags and stickers from Zazzle and have my eyes on a couple of new Christmas pillows like this one and this one.

2016 ConfettiStyle Christmas Decor Theme

Christmas is definitely my favorite time of the year and I can’t wait to share my decor with you. I also have some great gift guides, entertaining posts and easy DIY projects planned.

Mark your calendars for the 2016 Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.  Like last year, all of the participating bloggers will be sharing their holiday home tours over a 3 week period starting November 30th.

My Favorite Things 2015!

Slide1

Last year I started a holiday series entitled 30 Days of Holidays.  I had such a blast sharing all kinds of holiday decorating, wrapping, gifting and entertaining ideas that I’ve decided to run the series again this year.

The 30 Days of Holidays series will kick off on Nov. 24th with the first of my holiday gift guides.  I’ve been shopping my favorite stores and online shops to bring you the best gifts to give (or put on your list) this Christmas.  As part of the series I’ll also be sharing holiday DIY projects, gift wrap ideas and my holiday decor.

Since I’ve got holiday gifts on my mind, I thought it would be fun to share my personal gift list with you.  These are all items that I’d buy for myself (and in some cases already have) or would love to find under the tree on Christmas morning.

Enjoy and let me know which item is your favorite!

What To Do Now To Prepare For Christmas

Hello friends!  Where is the time going?  Today I’m tapping into my inner girl scout and sharing a post about being prepared.  And while this is a post about getting ready for Christmas, it’s not meant to take the focus off of Thanksgiving and what that holiday means.  Instead my goal is to help you get a jump of Christmas so that once Thanksgiving has passed you can usher in the Christmas season with less stress and anxiety and enjoy it to the fullest.

By nature I’m a preparer and organizer.  I don’t function well without order in my life, a daily to-do list, and a cup of tea in the morning.   So, these tips are just as much for you as they are for me. With only 7 weeks before Christmas, nows the time to start making that list and checking it twice!

Preparing For Christmas.001

#1 Pull out your holiday decor and assess what you have. Stores have been stocked with Christmas decor for weeks (and in some cases months) and items are selling fast.  Now is the time to take inventory of what Christmas decor you have and what items you need to purchase.  This is especially key when it comes to Christmas lights because there never seem to be enough white Christmas lights to go around.

#2  Determine your holiday decor theme.  Once you’ve looked through your Christmas decor, determine what your decorating theme will be this year.  You may have a traditional look that you want to continue with or you may want to change things up a bit.  Whatever look you want, now is the time to get a picture in your head so when you start to decorate you’ll know exactly the look you want.

2014 Christmas Table By ConfettiStyle(33) copy

# 3  Schedule time to buy, set-up and decorate the tree.  Decorating a Christmas tree is a task so block out time on your calendar for decorating so you don’t feel rushed.  If you buy a live tree, plan the date when you’ll go purchase the tree and then make sure the area where it will go is clear and free for when you bring it home.

# 4  Plan your gift list.  All of the major retailers and online stores have begun to promote their holiday gift guides.  Gift guides show you the hottest items of the season so take note because they can be a great starting point in helping you create your own gift list.  If you’ve got electronics and toys on your list, it’s also a great time to start price shopping to find the best deals.

# 5  Buy (or make) your Christmas cards.  I was in Target the other day and they have the cutest Christmas cards.  Just like gift wrap and Christmas lights, the weeks before Thanksgiving is when Christmas cards start flying off the shelf.  Head to the store in the next week to get your cards so you don’t miss out on the best designs. Or you can be totally insane like me and try to fit handmade cards onto the to-do list!

Christmas Gift Wrap 2014 by ConfettiStyle (7) copy

# 6  Create a giftwrap station (or at least pull together your holiday wrapping materials).  I love to wrap gifts so creating a gift wrap stations is something I love to do.  Fill a basket with holiday wrapping essentials so everyone in the family can easily access the items.  Here’s what items should be included in your giftwrap station:  assorted size boxes, tissue paper, wrapping paper, ribbon, tape, tags, embellishments, scissors

**my favorite sources for holiday wrap this year:  Giftwrap Wonderland, Sugar Paper LA and Paper Source

#7  Ready the guest room.  There’s always lots to do to prepare for the holidays and it’s the little things that often get overlooked.  If you have guests coming for Christmas, spend a couple of hours getting the guest room prepared.  Check out my guest room ready post to help you welcome your guests in style.

Christmas Gift Wrap 2014 by ConfettiStyle (8) copy

# 8  Set the table.  I know this won’t work if you use your dining table everyday but I know for many folks the dinning room only gets used on special occasions.  If you fall into that category, plan ahead and get the table ready for your holiday dinner.  Iron the linens, pull out the china and create your place settings. A few days before Christmas, create the centerpiece and you’ll be all set.

# 9  Plan you menu & buy cooking staples.  Cooking is not one of my favorite things to do and I get really cranky when I decide to cook and find I’m missing a staple like baking soda or spices.  Now is the time to loosely plan your holiday menu and purchase all of the staples you’ll need so you have them on hand.

DIY Mug Wrap by ConfettiStyle1

and with all that preparation you be able to…

# 10  Enjoy the season!  Taking time to prepare for the busy holiday season will pay off in big ways because you’ll be able to relax, enjoy a hot toddy and watch your favorite Christmas movies without stress.
