Milk Glass on Display
It’s Monday! I hope your weekend was a good one. I stayed close to home a good part of the weekend (due to rain) but did have a little outing with my friends Tina from Encore Creations and Brandi from Do Not Disturb This Groove. The three of us met at the Lakewood 400 Antique market on Saturday morning and spent a few hours shopping. We didn’t score much but Tina found a vintage crochet set for $10 and Brandi scored a really cool wood display piece for cheap. I came home with some vintage tassel jewelry (yeah!) and a really cool mini brass scale. I was on the hunt for milk glass which led me to this post today….
It’s no secret that I love Milk Glass! Even though my collection is relatively small at this moment, I’ve officially declared milk glass “my collection of choice” which helps to justify the purchases I make each month at the Scott Antique Market. My long-term goal is not to hoard milk glass but to build a collection that would be worthy of a display like these that I admire so much.

These books with neutral colored covers add bulk and visual dimension to this milk glass display.

This is my favorite way to display milk glass, with darker colors, woven textures and rustic accessories. The contrast makes the milk glass look even more spectacular.
I also want my milk glass collection to be varied enough that it allows me to decorate like this…

I’d also love to use my milk glass to hold beauty tools.

There are so many wonderful milk glass containers that can hold things in every room of the house and I’ve already begun to use a few pieces in my bedroom.

Slowly but surely my milk glass collection is growing and I can’t wait to see what pieces I can add to it on my next thrifting adventure.
So who out there loves milk glass as much as I do? Or, do you have another type of item that is your “collection of choice”?
If you’re in the market for some, be sure to check my Etsy shop as I have a few pieces for sale and will be adding some more this week.
The Impact Pinterest Has Had on Me!
I must admit I spend a lot of time on Pinterest. Yes, I use Pinterest when I need to take a break from the computer or when I bored with TV in the evening, and I’ve been known to pin a lot when I’m the passenger on one of our road trips. But Pinterest is also an online tool that serves are a source of inspiration for me, a resource library of design ideas, a personal coach that motivates me and a business tool that I use for marketing.
The INSPIRATION comes from all the amazing room images that helps me focus on a design concept, gives me a starting point for an entertaining idea or leads me to a product or resource that I can use.
Although this starburst mirror has been around for a while and is very popular, it took this image to really sell me on the idea of buying this piece for a dining room project I’m working on.
The IDEAS are endless on Pinterest and Pinterest allows me to see how an ordinary item can be transformed into something great with a little elbow grease and more often than not a little paint.
This image got me thinking about how I could turn a simple black mirror into an elegant wall décor statement. I love the addition of the gold inner rim and the embellished gold corners.
I have seen and admired these embossed metal pieces at Scott Antique Market every month and now I have an idea of how to use them.
This image has given me the idea of buying a super cheap silver-plated coffee service and spray painting it gold. Isn’t this set so chic!
My DESIGN LIBRARY is full of beautiful room images and DIY projects that will keep me inspired and creating for years to come, thanks to Pinterest.
I have a four-poster bed that I felt was dated and no longer useful but this picture gives me a different perspective.
The next time I working on an office space or trying to sell the attributes of a small space to a client, I can refer to this image and will definitely recommend a bold desk color, dark walls and an eclectic mix of art. So beautiful & captivating!
When I see images like this I am reminded that it’s the little details that make a space come together. I adore this wishbone and how it adds an unexpected touch to this coffee table vignette. I have one on order and you can order yours here.
No longer will I send a card in a plain envelope…I’ll put my DIY skills to work and will add a pretty piece of decorative paper to make my note really special. Here’s a tutorial I did on creating lined envelopes.
While it may seem like an unlikely SOURCE OF INSPIRATION, if you are like most people on Pinterest you have a board where you pin inspirational quotes. My Words of Wisdom board serves as a motivation coach, reminds me of what really matters in life and helps me set and go after my goals.
And finally, Pinterest has become a great BUSINESS TOOL and a way to promote my businesses and bring new followers to my blog.

Out and About: Shopping Palooza
Welcome to a new week! I hope your weekend was a good one. Beside getting a little work done, switching out my closet from winter to spring clothes and going to Scott Antique Market, I spent a fair amount of time out and about shopping and visiting a couple of stores here in Atlanta that have been on my list of things to do.
Here’s a look at my weekend from behind the lens! {warning, photo heavy post}
First up is my visit to Scott Antique Market on Thursday. Despite not being in the mood to dig through piles of stuff, I did come away with a few treasures. I was also excited to see lots of new vintage modern pieces from one of my favorite dealers, Parker Kennedy Living. David and Lance are two of the nicest people and boy do they have an eye for style and design.
I purchased this beautiful bubble pattern Jadite bowl. This is my first Jadite purchase and now I’m torn between putting this bowl in my Etsy shop or keeping it for myself.
I also came home with this unique milk glass bowl.
This wood dough bowl was also a purchase that will be going into the shop.
These vintage cookie molds were old and rusty but I loved their charm.
This is the Mexican porcelain dish I got. The colors and pattern were what drew me to this piece.
After doing a bit more shopping, I made my way over to the Parker Kennedy booth. It was so refreshing to see the bold colors they infused their booth with this show.
These wood cabinets with rattan doors were pretty stunning. I think they would look great in a beach house.
How about these turquoise chest? I can totally envision a bedroom designed around these beauties.
This magenta piece was really stunning.
This was my favorite piece in the PKL booth. I adore the concave front, the dramatic green color and the gold accents on the doors.
Loved the whimsical feel of this flower mirror. It would be pretty stunning in a bathroom.
The color didn’t stop with the furniture at PKL, there were lots of accessories in fun vibrant colors as well.
If you get a chance to shop Scott Antique Market, you’ll definitely want to check out the Parker Kennedy booth. You can also connect with them on Facebook here.
On Saturday I had planned to head back out to Scott’s but had a last-minute change of plans and decided to stay in town and visit a few stores and check out The Revival vintage market that was taking place. My first stop was Steve McKenzie’s. I have wanted to visit the store for a while and after connecting with the owners, Steve and his wife Jill via Facebook and Twitter, I was excited to stop in for a visit. I met my friend Dorothy at the store and I had a great time meeting Steve and getting a tour of his shop.
In addition to being a southeast showroom for Grange, Steve and Jill have created a beautiful store filled with modern and vintage furnishing, antiques, decorative accents and tabletop pieces. Steve’s custom fabric and furniture line as well as ceramic pieces from R Wood are also available in the store.
Such beautiful chairs in a stunning orange fabric. I loved the sleek silhouette and the back cushion detail. Steve has also designed a sofa with this same detail.
Here’s a line-up of some of Steve’s custom fabrics. His new collection is also great and will be available soon.
Love this cute little bar cabinet. Perfect for a nook, corner or man’s office.
Just a few of the accessory pieces available… vintage wine barrel lazy susan, R Wood bowl and a vintage jar.
Such a cute chair!
This room within the store features a curtain wall in one of Steve’s fabrics and one of his original pieces of artwork. And, those red globe pendants are to-die-for!
This vintage tulip table and chair set were given a new look with the addition of fabric mixing on the chairs.
I wish you could see this antique table up close. The carved wood base is so beautiful and the bleached wood (done by Steve) really gave the table a soft, weathered appearance.
There is a wall of pillows in the full range of fabrics from Steve’s line.
On our way out of the store I spotted this really cool fold up desk caddy. The inside has cubbies for storing papers and office supplies, and when not in use the box folds up and can be stored or carried to another location.
Steve Mckenzie’s is a fabulous store that is open, airy and easy to shop. And, I also love that there are items in all price points so the store is affordable for everyone. I can’t wait to visit the store again.
Next on our stop was The Revival vintage market. This pop-up market was a bit disappointing in my book. I had gotten the impression from the advertising that there would be a good number of vintage sellers at this market and there really weren’t. Most of the products were handcrafted and/or up-cycled new pieces made to look vintage. There was jus a sprinkling of true vintage goods and the market felt more like a craft and artist market to me (see photos below). Despite all that Dorothy and I took a spin around. I did mange to spend $4 on some vintage wallpaper samples which I’m going to use to make some of my designer clipboards so the trip was not a total loss.
Wind chimes made from old tin pails and silverware.
Framed vintage dollies.
I can officially check The Revival off my list and don’t think I’ll be going back again.
The last stop on my shopping palooza was the Westside Market.
The newly opened Westside Market is a collection of booths that sell Vintage Furniture, Antique Furniture, Lighting, Lamps, Decorative Home Accessories, Framed Art, Floral Arrangements, Chairs, Upholstery, Drapes, Pillows, Original Art and Bed Linens. A little of everything. The market has been open for about a month but has not had its official grand opening celebration yet.
I was glad to see that some of my favorite dealers from Scott Antique Market have opened booths and I hope that more will follow so that this market will become a true vintage shopping destination. Here’s a look inside Westside Market…
A mix of old and new.
Original art.
Vintage collectibles and décor.
Up-styled vintage pieces.
Some true antiques.
More original artwork.
Painted and upholstered pieces.
I thought these retro modern chairs were fun.
Some new garden inspired décor and floral.
Keeping my fingers crossed that the Westside Market will develop into a great shopping destination.
If you’d like to visit the Westside Market you can find them here:
Westside Market 1530 Ellsworth Ind Blvd, Atlanta, Georgia 30318 Monday-Saturday 10:00-6:00 http://www.westsidemarketatl.com/Ok folks, that’s the end of the ride. Writing this post has taken all the energy I have today, especially since my computer froze on me and I had to start it all over! I hope you enjoyed my shopping palooza!
Lots on the to-do list this week including a bit more shopping at the Lakewood Antiques show on Friday. I hope you week ahead is Fabulous!
Treasure Hunting: A Sneek Peek
Happy Friday!
Just wanted to pop in today and give you a peek at a beautiful piece I found while attending Scott Antique Market yesterday. A woman standing next to me asked if she could look at it and after turning it over replied “that’s a good find”. I did a little research and all I know for now is that it is a piece of La Cartuja De Sevilla porcelain.
I only spent about two hours at the market before I was overcome by an allergy attack and had to leave but I did find a few other good items and will be back Monday to share all my treasures. If you’re shopping this weekend, I hope you find some goodies too!
Check in tomorrow for a bit of inspiration and weekend reads!
Reflecting on MIRRORS in the Kitchen
Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I spent a good part of Saturday shopping with a client and then came home and watched Argo. Boy was it a great movie and so suspenseful! I can totally understand why it won Best Picture. Sunday the hubs and I ran errands, stopped in at a couple of antique stores and lounged a lot. While my mind wanted to work, my body was in full R & R mode.
I’ve got a full week ahead with a trip to the Atlanta Merchandise mart planned, developing the new series of design workshops I’ll be presenting at a local retail store this month, shopping for several client projects and heading to Scott Antique Market on Friday. It should be a great week!
Two of the design projects I’m working on involve mirrors in the kitchen so I thought I’d share a few decorating ideas with that in mind! I just happen to think these ideas are pretty brilliant!
Mirrored backslash
Mirrored Wall Decor
Mirrored Cabinets
Mirrored Accent Wall
Mirrored Refrigerator Door
Decorating a kitchen with mirrors is not something that most people would put at the top of their list but the results can be stunning.
THE BENEFITS OF DECORATING WITH MIRRORS
* Mirrors Enhance Light
* Mirrors Make Small Spaces Look Larger
* Mirrors add Impact and Depth
* Mirrors Add Style and Design Detail
While Out Shopping…
Warning…this is an image heavy post but it’s all good stuff!
Despite lots of design projects, crafting and family visiting in February, I was able to sneak in a few shopping trips to some of my favorite and one new shopping destination. Here is was I saw and bought.
I did go to the Scott Antique Market and was once again wowed but the incredible selection of furniture, textiles and vintage pieces available.
A beautiful mirrored cabinet ideal as a nightstand!
I really liked this desk…the finish, the shelves and the hardware!
Adorable grain sack tote bags!
This massive entertainment unit is handmade right here in the US of A! Stunning.
While the antler look is not my style, I can really appreciate the artistry that goes in to creating a design around them. These large antlers were used to create a fun centerpiece.
{Sarah, how about this a the foundation to a holiday centerpiece? I can see the creative wheels in your head turning. Coming to an Etsy shop near you???}
Yet another fabulous ottoman style from one of the vendors. Scott is becoming a great resource for unique and well-priced custom ottomans.
I see vintage beverage crates all the time but this vendor had a huge selection of crates from bottling companies that I’ve never heard of before. Most of these were priced between $20 and $50.
This sign was plucked from an old diner and was pretty awesome. In the right farm-house style kitchen this would look great.
Mid-month I finally made it to a vintage shop/flea market that I’ve wanted to go to for a while. Here’s what I saw…
Framed needlepoint art. I admire anyone who can needlepoint like this.
A vintage wool blanket.
Beautiful gold-rimmed plates.
This vintage pail was glammed up a bit with a burlap label. So cute! I didn’t buy this pail but I did buy some plain ones for $2.00 each that I plan to decorate myself.
I thought this old cigar mold would be pretty cool in an art studio or craft space to hold markers or colored pencils.
Vintage pie tins turned into unique mirror frames.
I am so loving this idea of using an old candelabra globe as a mini cloche. I’ve always passed these up when shopping but now they are being added to my shopping list!
I bought these egg cups!
I’m on the hunt of vintage clocks and one of these made it home with me.
Loved this metal feed pail. I can think of a hundred ways to decorate with it each season.
I so wanted this antique chest with all of its amazing hardware but no go!
Next up was one of my favorite flea markets, which I kindly refer to as a dive. This place is filled to the rafters with stuff, a lot of good pieces and lots of junk. The dealers at this shop are always bringing in new items so every time I go it’s an adventure.
This hand-painted table was a great deal at $125 and didn’t last long. It sold before I left the store.
I’m coming across lots of handcrafted art lately and really loved these yarn flowers. These would be a fun addition to a girls room or as part of a gallery wall.
I have a thing for mirrors and loved this round beauty.
This was a large original oil painting that would look great at a beach property or lake house.
Incredible string and nail art. I remember making these as a kid but nothing this elaborate. I think this would look awesome in a study or man’s office.
Such amazing chairs. I could see these painted a fun, vibrant color with an upholstered seat. They were already sold!
A finally I made a quick trip through Ikea. I was happy to see that their new catalog is out and that the store is undergoing lots of vignette changes. There were a few new items in the store but I’ve heard that most of the new pieces and new vignettes will be unveiled next week. Oh darn, I guess I’ll have to make another trip.
The new catalog. If you get yours by mail it should be arriving very soon.
I posted a picture of this pillow on Instagram (@confettistyle) and shared the incredible price…$9.99!
Love this coconut palm leaf basket. It almost looked like a short animal skin.
A pretty fab chair for a breakfast area or as an accent chair.
I don’t need a desk lamp but loved the sleek style of this one.
I can never pass up a piece that offers lots of versatility. Such a bargain at $14.99.
I have a slight obsession with the paper napkins from Ikea and couldn’t resist these striped beauties. $1.49 a pack.
These smoke gray goblets were stunning and at only $5.99 each a few had to come home with me.
This black and ivory pillow cover is only $10.00. It is a great weight and the pattern is so fresh and bold.
For those of you that don’t know, Ikea has a fabric department where you cut your own fabric. All the fabrics are $8.99 a yard and they have a variety of patterns to choose from. The dots above are oil cloth and would be great to use as a tablecloth or upholstery fabric for kitchen chairs.
This was a pretty cool abstract print. I loved the black, off-white and green color combo.
They have lots of traditional patterns too. Bold plaids, mini stripes and wider awning stripes. All of these fabrics could be used for stylish curtain panels.
Some fun florals.
There is lots of color being added to the lighting department. The paper lanterns would be great in a young girls room, nursery or in a casual sunroom.
Classic drum shades with a splash of color.
And finally some striped baskets that could be used as planters, magazine baskets or for toy storage.
All in all, February was a good shopping month. Scott Antique market is just a week away and the fun starts all over again.
Have a great weekend and if shopping is on your list, I hope you find something great.
