Gift Wrap Inspiration–A Bold Bow

Pretty Paper + Paper Fan  Big Bow

To make your gift wrap stand out you need to give your wrap some dimension.  One of the ways I love to do this is by making paper fans and using them in combination with a beautiful bow (the more loops the better).  For this wrap I made two paper fans and glued them to the top of the box, on the left and right of the bow!  Instant impact!

DIY–Christmas Countdown Gift Holder

 Christmas Countdown Gift Holder

If you’re anything like me, finding that special holiday gift gets harder and harder each year.  Every year, I try to come up with something unique and different to put a spin on gift giving.  I’ve created my version of Oprah’s Favorite Things, I’ve gone down the clothes route, and I’ve relied on magazine subscriptions way to often.

To change things up a bit this year, I decided to make a DIY version of an Advent Calendar, or as I call it, a Christmas Countdown Gift Holder.

If you’re not familiar with the meaning behind Advent Calendars, simply put, it is a special calendar that is used to count or celebrate the coming of Christmas.  The 24 days leading up to Christmas are celebrated and often a small gift is opened each day as a sign of love and sharing among family.  So, to create my version of an Advent Calendar, I turned a 24 Pocket, Plastic Over-the-Door Shoe Holder into a Christmas Countdown Gift Holder.

Here’s the 411 on how my gift holder came to life….

To make my Christmas Countdown Gift Holder, I gathered the following supplies:

And then I went to work embellishing all 24 pockets.  I decorated each of the pockets differently, and numbered each pocket to correspond to the 24 days leading up to Christmas.  Pocket #1 holds a gift to be opened on Dec. 1st; the gift in pocket 2 will be opened on Dec. 2nd and so on thru Dec. 24th.

Here’s an up close look at a few of  the pockets.

I hope you enjoyed my version of an Advent Calendar, and that every day during this holiday season brings you joy and happiness!

Gift Giving Ideas!

It’s official…the holiday shopping season is here!  As someone who shops (practices retail therapy), and has spent endless hours looking for that perfect gift, I wanted to share a few of my gift ideas with you.   These gift ideas will really come in handy when you have some hard-to-buy for people on your list.  I have used these gift ideas when shopping for my brother, “the techie”, or my darling husband, “the whatever guy”, and have seen some pretty big smiles on their faces.

 FAVORITE THINGS GIFT

As one of  Oprah’s all-time fans, I took her favorite things ideas and purchased a selection of small gifts, all “favorite things” of the gift recipient.  My husband loves to play tennis, so one year I got him gifts that were all tennis related.  I wrapped everything and placed all the gifts in a tennis racket case.  The gift tag simply said, “Geno’s Favorite Things.”

GIFT CARD GLEE

Last year, when I really wanted to watch my pennies, but still wanted unique gifts for my family, I purchased a selection of gift cards for everyone on my list.  Most of the gift cards were $5.00 or $10.00, and all were from stores I knew they loved to shop.  I placed all the gift cards in burlap stockings that I handmade.

TOWER OF POWER

I love to give gifts that have a theme to them and place the items in a tower of boxes.  One year, I gave a friend a “dress-to-impress” gift. One box contained a necklace, another box contained a pair of earrings, and a third box contained a bracelet.   I made the jewelry myself so that was an added little gift.

A PERSONAL TOUCH

I love personalized items, and this year, I plan to give gifts that are all personalized.  For the men on my list, I plan to have wallets embossed with an initial.  Other personalized  items I’m looking at are monogrammed throw blankets and embroidered initial pillows.  I really like gifting with personalized items because there are so many options to choose from.  And, I  plan to even personalized my gift wrap.

After Christmas Sales: FIVE Things You Should Shop For

What To Shop For During After Christmas Sales by ConfettiStyle

On the day after Christmas I’m usually up and out the door headed to after-Christmas sales.  It’s actually one of the things I look forward to  after the hustle and bustle of the days leading up to Christmas.

In addition to holiday decor being discounted, stores will also have big discounts on winter clothing and there will be lots of everyday items on clearance too.  The week after Christmas is really a great time to shop if you love a deal and want to get a jump-start on next Christmas.

In today’s post, I’ve outlined the FIVE items that should be at the top of your shopping list in the days after Christmas.

Wrapping Paper

What To Shop For During After Christmas Sales by ConfettiStyle

After-Christmas is the best time to buy wrapping paper, gift bags and decorative boxes. It’s also a good time to replenish gift tags, tape and other gift wrap supplies. Along with holiday themed wrapping paper, be on the look out for deals on generic gift wrap designs that you can use throughout the year.  A red and pink striped paper can be used for Valentine’s Day and solid colors can be use for any gift occasion.

I’ll be stopping by Hobby Lobby to stock up on tissue paper and gift card boxes and will also be looking for holiday embellishments I can use to wrap gifts.  This gold and white striped wrapping paper is a great deal and usable year round.

My Favorite Stores To Shop For Wrapping Paper:

Holiday Tabletop

What To Shop For During After Christmas Sales by ConfettiStyle

For those of you that love to entertain, after-Christmas sales are the perfect time to buy holiday dinnerware and table linens.  Shop early for the best choice but be open to mixing and matching tabletop patterns if you can’t find enough pieces in a design you love.  An eclectic holiday table can be really fun to pull together.

It’s also a great time to shop for holiday paper goods that you can use for casual parties. Create and Barrel is one of my favorite stores to shop for tabletop items.  I just bought these adorable holiday cocktails napkins which will also make a great hostess gift.

tip: did you know you can make a Christmas pillow from a holiday themed placemat?  My friend Meg has a great tutorial that shows you how easy it is to make.  Keep this tip in mind when your shopping for discounted linens.

My Favorite Stores To Shop For Tabletop Items:

HomeGoods and Marshalls // Williams Sonoma // Pier 1 // Pottery Barn

Holiday Gift Baskets {and gift sets}

What To Shop For During After Christmas Sales by ConfettiStyle

Gift baskets might not be the first thing you think about when you’re shopping after Christmas but they should be.  Instead of using the basket as it is, pull the items out and create a new basket or use the items as individual gifts.

I like to buy beauty, food or entertaining themed baskets because many of the items and the container are aren’t season specific and can be used for other gift occasions.

tip:  when you’re shopping, think about birthdays, weddings and other events you have coming up during the new year.  You just might find the perfect components for a great gift.

My Favorite Stores To Shop For Gift Baskets:

World Market // HomeGoods // Target // Bath & Body Works // Bed Bath Beyond

Candles

What To Shop For During After Christmas Sales by ConfettiStyle

Shop after Christmas sales for winter scents like pine or cinnamon.  These fragrances are classified as Christmas but they are wonderful to burn throughout the cold winter months.  You can also buy a few candles to stash in your gift closet for gift-giving next year.

tip:  many candles on the market have removable paper labels so the look of the jar becomes universal.  Remove the label and create your own decorative wrap to fit any gift occasion.

My Favorite Stores To Shop For Candles:

Bath & Body Works // Local Boutiques //  TJ Maxx and HomeGoods // William Sonoma

Winter Accessories

Retailers will be marking down cold-weather accessories to make room for warm-weather fashions that will begin hitting stores in just a few weeks.  Now is a great time to buy gloves, knit hats and scarves and find amazing deals on cashmere accessories.

The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sales is going on thru January 2nd and there are some fabulous items on sale.  I just ordered the leopard print shawl above (under $20) and this cute knit hat with fur Pom Pom (under $12).

tip: before you gift your bargain accessories next year, take them to a monogram shop to have them personalized with a monogram.  A simple monogram will give your clearance find a designer look.

My Favorite Stores To Shop For Winter Accessories:

Nordstroms // Macy’s // Mark & Graham // Dillards

Unique Christmas Decor Finds To Make Your Decor Extra Special

Happy November friends!  Can you believe that there are only two months left in the year and only 50 days until Christmas?   Boy has this year flown by.  When it comes to Christmas decorating, I know there are two camps–put it up early or wait until after Thanksgiving. No matter where you are with decorating, I wanted to share a few awesome holiday decor items that I’ve come across recently.   From tree decor and gift giving, to entertaining and mantel decor, I’m sure you’ll find and item or you that you’ll love.  And while you’re shopping my picks, have your gift list handy because many of these items make great gifts too!

Favorite Christmas Decor Finds

Monogram Ornaments–I think these monogram ornaments are so darn cute!  I bought a handful to use as gift tags on presents but think they would also be fun napkin rings.  If you like these, you’ll want to get them soon because I think they are going to sell out fast.

Flat Stocking Holder–Finally a stocking holder that won’t compete with your holiday mantel decor.  And if you don’t have a mantel you can use them to hang stockings from a console table or bookshelf.

Buffalo Check Tree Skirt–This black and white check tree skirt is an easy way to add a fun twist to your Christmas decor no matter what your holiday color theme.

Aerin Heart Ornaments–I would buy this set of heart ornaments and break them up into individual gifts for special friends or clients.  The set would also look great in a pretty bowl as everyday decor.

Piles Of Patches Christmas Stocking–This stocking took my breath way.  It’s so pretty and unique!  I love the 3-d elements, fabric mix and the vintage feel that it has.

Ornaments Salad Plates–Every few years I buy a new set of holiday salad plates as an easy way to pair with my classic china. I love the fun vide and colorful pattern on these ornament plates.

Letter To Santa Christmas Mailbox Ornament–Whenever I teach a gift wrap workshop, people ask me for creative wrapping ideas for money gifts.  This mailbox ornament from the Hearth & Hand collection at Target would be great to hold folded up bills or a check.   Just add a gift tag and hang it on the tree and no one will suspect there’s a treasure inside.

Holiday Wreath Christmas Pillow–It’s really had to find a holiday pillow that not all red and green but still feels like Christmas.  I love the embroidered wreath on this velvet pillow.

Joy Napkin Wrap–A few months ago I shared a JOY napkin ring from Frontgate on the blog and so many of you loved it.  Unfortunately it’s no longer available but I found this option that’s just as fun.  It’s available in a gold and silver finish.

Mercury Glass Trees–Just add a string of lights or flameless candles inside these mercury glass trees for an instant centerpiece on a side board or mantel.

Felt Ball Garland–This felt garland would be so cute on a kids tree or draped along a staircase.  I’d also use the garland nestled into a plain glass vase or candle hurricane.

Velvet Ribbon–This velvet ribbon would make great bows to hang on a tree, garland or to use for gift wrapping.

And speaking of ribbon and gift wrap, do you want to take your gift wrap game to the next level this holiday?  If so, I’d love for you to join me for my Creative Gift Wrap Workshop on Dec. 1st, hosted by Steve McKenzie’s and Verde Home.  Full workshop detail below.  Space is limited so get your tickets today on Eventbirte.

Be sure to tune in all week as I’ll be sharing more holiday inspiration and decorating ideas with you.

I love this seasonal Thanksgiving tablescape from Minted. The layering is perfection.

For those of you that decorate for Christmas in traditional red and green, these gorgeous ornaments are for you.

  FALL & HOLIDAY FASHION FINDS

When its cold outside (like today) you’ll most likely find me wearing yoga pants and a sweatshirt. I love a sweatshirt that has a little style to it and recently picked up this cute striped sweatshirt.  It’s so cozy and I love the puff sleeve.

This tartan plaid shirt would be fun to wear to a casual Christmas party.

I don’t shop H & M that often but they’ve got some really cute clothes right now.  And you can’t beat their prices.  This cute nordic inspired sweater and this mohair blend sweater are two seasonal faves.

My 2018 Christmas Theme | Chinoiserie Inspired

Happy, Happy Friday!  Today’s blog post is one of my favorites to share each year.  It’s my annual Christmas theme post where I show you my decorating plans for the holidays.  If you’re a new follower, let me fill you in on my obsession with Christmas decorating.

Ever since I was little, I’ve loved decorating Christmas trees, hanging stockings and wrapping gifts. I remember making ornaments with my dad and sitting in front of the silver tinsel tree in awe. Once I graduated from college and got my first apartment, I couldn’t wait to put up my own tree. And when I got married I started creating a theme for my decor and 27 years later, the tradition continues.

Last year I shared the details on exactly how I develop my holiday decorating theme. And if you missed it, you can see how I decorated using my favorite colors in 2017 and how my 2016 Christmas theme was inspired by wrapping paper.

This year my holiday theme is inspired by my love for blue and white and my collection of ginger jars.  I’m calling my theme…

Shopping For Stationery | Chinoiserie Style

Hi friends.  I hope everyone had a great weekend and Easter.  It’s not secret that I love paper products and today I’m sharing one of my favorite paper companies with.

I love beautiful stationery and as a business owner personalized stationery is part of my branding when communicating with clients.

I was on the hunt recently for new notecards and my search led me to WH Hostess Social Stationery.   WH Hostess sells paper goods including stationery, party decor, gift packaging and personalized gifts.  Their designs are fresh and modern and I love the variety of patterns and colors they offer. Chinoiserie inspired designs are one of my favorite and WH Hostess has a great selection of chinoiserie stationery.

I prefer flat cards over folded and use them for general correspondence with clients and for quick notes to friends. A few of my favorite designs from WH Hostess include their greek key, stripe, bamboo and plaid designs.

Monogram Ginger Jar Flat Notecard {7 monogram colors available}

GIFT TAGS

If you think gift tags are just for gift  giving, think again.  Personalized gift tags with your business logo and name can be used as a creative alternative to a business card.  I use them to tag fabric sample rings or other design samples.  You can also use personalized stickers in the same way.

Foiled Stamped Gift Tag {a variety of ink and paper colors available}

Greek Key Border Foil Stamped Gift Tag {a variety of ink and paper colors available}
