Personalize Your Holiday Decor–Buy or DIY

Slide1

Happy Sunday!  With only about 16 days before Christmas, I know this weekend was a big weekend for Christmas tree decorating.  I’ve put the finishing touches on my tree and at the last minute I added a few monogrammed ornaments to the mix.

Monogrammed ornaments are a great way to personalize your holiday decor, whether it’s on the Christmas tree, your holiday table or as part of your holiday gift wrap.

Next week is going to be a crazy one.  I got called back for more jury duty questioning, for a big case here in Atlanta and I have my fingers crossed that I don’t get picked.  In anticipation of a busy week, I’ve completed two design plans early, I’ve written all my blog post for the week ( I’ve got some good ones for  you) and a new stack of magazines is ready to accompany me to the court house!

The Art of Hand Lettering

As I child I loved to write.  There was just something about having a big fat No. 2 pencil in my hand and a thick pad of lined paper.  I loved to practice writing my alphabet like the school books showed but what really intrigued me was making my letters fancy.  It seems at a young age I found a love for hand lettering.

IMG_8221

Over the years I would hand letter a card or the address on an envelope but I had really gotten away from practicing what I loved.  So recently I picked up the pencil again and started scripting.

Making gift tags is something I really enjoy and here are a few I’ve made.

IMG_8218

Getting back into the art of hand lettering is like riding a bike.  You don’t ever lose the skill but it takes a minute to remember the techniques and to strengthen your body to enjoy the ride.  Boy is my right hand sore.

I feel like I’m back in the saddle again with my hand lettering so look forward to me sharing a few more projects with you throughout the year.

Cheers to a great weekend and embracing the things that bring you joy.

Tools of the Trade

Happy Monday!   I hope your weekend was a good one.  Here in Atlanta we experienced the first fall chill which was perfect for a weekend for nesting and doing some crafting.
Since I do a lot of crafting, my crafting cabinet is filled with lots of tools of the trade like scissors, glue, paint, punches and glitter.  I also have a paper-cutter which I use when I’m working on paper and card projects.  A few weeks ago my trusty paper-cutter crashed and burned and I was left using scissors as my only method to cut paper.
IMG_6821
My arsenal of scissors worked ok but I was in need of a paper-cutter for the many projects I’m working on. Well, you know how they saying goes…ask and you shall receive!
Just when I was about to go out and buy a paper-cutter, I was contacted by YescomUSA  about trying one of their new home products.  YescomUSA is an online superstore that sells a wide variety of products ranging from photo equipment and gardening tools to outdoor décor and toy & hobby equipment.  I took YescomUSA up on their offer and they sent me their 15″ Guillotine Paper Cutter Just what I needed!
16PCT002-15B4-07-G
Let me just tell you this is one amazing paper-cutter!  Some of the features I like most about this paper-cutter are the steel base which makes the piece sturdy when cutting, the lockable cutting arm, the ruler and paper grid markings and the surface it will accommodate a 15″ paper size (which my old cutter would not).
16PCT002-15B4-07-02
The paper-cutter couldn’t have come at a better time because I’m in the process of creating new products for my Etsy shops, all of which involve lots of paper cutting.
IMG_6815
I’m making cute banner gift tags

and have cut lots of paper to make holiday coasters.
16PCT002-15B4-07-03
The 15″ Guillotine Paper Cutter is the entry-level paper-cutter available from YescomUSA and sells for $39.99.  If you do a major amount of cutting and or need an industrial strength paper-cutter, they offer those too, ranging in price from $175 to $320.  You can see all the paper-cutter styles here.
Thanks YescomUSA for coming to the rescue with such a great product!

I’m a Crafter at Heart {and I’m living my passions}

Happy Friday!

Those of you that follow along on my blog my or may not know that I have a vast professional background. As a little girl I was totally in love with fashion and knew that I wanted to do something in that field as a profession. After winning the title of best dressed in high school and getting a fashion and interior design degree from college I took my first job as a department manager for a regional department store in Seattle. I quickly made my way to the position of assistant buyer where I bought jewelry and fashion accessories.

7efc6572c8071793df743f05144667ca

The bulk of my fashion career was spent at Eddie Bauer.  I started as an assistant buyer in women’s and over the course of 11 years I  the buyer for various product categories and eventually the general merchandise manager for the non-apparel products for both the catalog and retail division of the company  (Gear, Luggage, Footwear, Accessories, Watches, Sunglasses etc).

After leaving Eddie Bauer and moving to Atlanta, I tapped into one of my other loves, interior design.  For 8 years I owned and operated my own home decor and gift store and after closing it in 2011, I opened my boutique interior design business which is what I do now.  Throughout my retail, fashion and interior design career I’ve also had a side passion that’s  kept me busy…Crafting!  Just like fashion and design, crafting is part of my DNA and I love to create things.  Over the years I’d crafted in every medium you can think of but there is one area that I have a slight obsession with, rubber stamping!

I am an admitted rubber stamp addict {as represented by the more than 1000 rubber stamps I own} and am really excited about a new opportunity that has come my way.

new_header_logo_tm

I was recently contacted by a rubber stamp manufacturer here in Georgia to create rubber stamp projects using their stamps.  Craffiti Direct is in the initial stage of launching their own rubber stamp line and are building their line-up of stamp artist.  One of the missions of the company is to give their customers with creative ideas for using their stamps, beyond scrapbooking and traditional card making.  That’s where I come in.

I’ll be creating unique projects for them that  show people different ways they can use rubber stamps.  It’s such fun to combine gift wrapping, holiday decorating, decor and my love of paper with rubber stamps.

Here’s a look at a few projects I’ve created so far…

If you like to craft with rubber stamps, I hope I’ll inspire you in new ways. if you’ve never tried stamping before I hope I can encourage you to give it a try.  Either way I’ll be sharing the projects I create for Craffiti here on the blog.

I’m so grateful that throughout my life I’ve been able to live my passions and I’m so glad you stop by the blog every day and let me share them with you. Thank You!
