DIY Embroidery Hoop & Ribbon Christmas Wreath

DIY Embroidery Hoop & Ribbon Christmas Wreath by ConfettiStyle

Happy Monday friends! I’m so excited to share the latest ribbon project I created for the The Ribbon Roll.  For those of you that may have missed it, I’m on the design team for The Ribbon Roll, an online retail store that sells over 15,000 different styles of ribbon. As a member of the design team, I create projects using their ribbon and share them on their blog.  If you like crafting with ribbon, check out the blog for fun seasonal and everyday project ideas.

My latest project, an Embroidery Hoop & Ribbon Christmas Wreath is one of my favorite holiday projects ever. I am in love with the way it turned out and can’t wait to hang it in my home.

My wreath features beautiful metallic and lame ribbons but you could use just about any of the Ribbon Roll ribbons to customize the look for your home or any season.

For all you crafters out there, here’s a step-by-step tutorial and the supply list so you can make your own wreath.

EMBROIDERY HOOP & RIBBON CHRISTMAS WREATH

Supply List:

  • Large Embroidery Hoop–before buying new, check your local Goodwill where you can usually find these large hoops for less than a $2.00
  • Golden Grenada Wired Edge Ribbon–you’ll need about 2 yds for wider ribbon and about 3 yards for narrower ribbon
  • Metallic Lame Tweed Wired Edge Ribbon (see ribbon yardage above)
  • Glitter Leaves–there are 50 pieces in the pack so you’ll have lots left over to use on other projects
  • 4 to 6 Faux Evergreen Pics—you can buy these from Micheal’s, Hobby Lobby or JoAnn right now for 50-60% off.  I always stock up when they go on sale/clearance.
  • Merry Christmas Wood Die-Cut –I bought my piece at Michael’s but I’ve also seen similar at Target in the dollar bins
  • Acrylic Craft Paint—available from any craft store
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Floral Wire
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue
  • Small Ornaments (optional)

HOW-TO:

  • Cut  the ribbon into lengths 2” longer than the widest point of the embroidery hoop.  The number of ribbon pieces you’ll need will depend on the size of your embroidery hoop and the width of your ribbon.  You’ll want to cut enough ribbon strips to fill the embroidery hoop.
  • Open your embroidery hoop and separate the two pieces.
  • Lay the one pattern of ribbon spaced out over the inside (smaller) hoop.  Then criss-cross the second ribbon to create a woven look.
  • Once all the ribbon is in place, slide the larger hoop over the smaller hoop and tighten the hoop down. If you need to adjust the ribbon position, loosen the hoop a little, move the ribbon around and re-tighten the hoop.  Once the ribbon is secure, trim away any excess ribbon around the backside of the hoop.

  • Using your floral wire, attach the greenery pics to the hoop.  You can place the pics at the top, bottom or slightly off-center like I did.

  • Paint your Merry Christmas die-cut using your craft paint.  I painted mine in a metallic gold.
  • Using your hot glue gun, glue the die-cut piece on top of the ribbon, in the center of the hoop.
  • Stick a few glitter leaves into the greenery pics in any layout you like.  I placed mine where the greenery pics meet in the middle.
  • (optional) Embellish the wreath with mini ornaments (attach them using your hot glue gun).

Tip:  If you place your greenery pics off-center like I did, the wreath will be heavier on one side.  So that the wreath hangs straight, use two nails spaced about 3 inches apart.

That’s all there is to it.  Happy crafting!

Handmade Christmas Bow Using Ribbon

Handmade Christmas Bow Using Ribbon by ConfettiStyle

Given the choice between old-fashioned store-bought bows and a beautiful bow made by hand, a handcrafted bow wins every time.  Today I’m sharing an easy project that takes a classic multi-point bow up a notch using ribbon from The Ribbon Roll.

CLASSIC CHRISTMAS BOW MADE WITH RIBBON

Handmade Christmas Bow Using Ribbon by ConfettiStyle

Supply List:

7/8”  Christmas Stripes Wired Edge

1 3/8” Velvet Merrowed Wired Edge Ribbon

Hot Glue Gun and Glue

White Cardstock

Directions:

Step 1: Cut (4) 10″ strips, (4) 9″ strips and (1) 3 1/2” strip of your ribbon. Using two different lengths of ribbon will make the top layer of the bow a little smaller than the bottom layer.

Step 2: Take one of the longest ribbon pieces and loop the right side around to the center and glue the end in place.  Loop the other end of the ribbon in the same manner and glue the end in place.

Step 3: Repeat the same steps will all the ribbon pieces except the shortest 3 1/2″ long piece.

Step 5: You are now going to layer and glue the looped pieces together.  Take one of the longer looped pieces and place a  dot of glue in the center where the ribbon ends meet.  Place the second large loop piece on top of the glue with the points going in a different direction.

Step 7: Continue gluing each set of loops onto the center of the bow, working from the largest loops up to the smaller loops. Each time you layer a piece of ribbon, make sure the pointed end are pointing in a different direction.

Step 8: After all the lopped pieces are layered, add the center loop. Form a circle with the 3 1/2″ L piece of ribbon, overlapping the ends and glue them together.   Glue the circle piece in the center of your bow.

Step 9:  Cut a 1.75″ circle out of the cardstock and glue it to the back of the bow. This creates a solid base to attach the bow to a gift.

note:  Since the velvet ribbon is wider than the stripe, I was able to make it using only the 4 longer strips of ribbon plus the center loop.

HANDMADE RIBBON BOWS

tip:  You can use a variety of ribbon styles to make these classic bows including both wired edge and non-wired edge.  If you want to make a much larger bow, use ribbon 1 1/2” or wider and cut your strips longer.

Here are my favorite Ribbon Roll Christmas ribbons for this project:

DIY No Carve Halloween Ribbon Pumpkins

Hi friends.  The last week and a half have been really busy and I haven’t been able to blog like I planned.  The craziness has slowed down a bit so I’m finally getting a chance to pop in and share a fun Halloween craft project with you.

A few weeks ago I told you that I’m part of the design team for The Ribbon Roll, one of the leading ribbon companies in the US.  Each quarter I’ll be creating projects for them using their amazing ribbons.  Since Halloween is just around the corner, I decided to craft some easy ribbon pumpkins.  This project took about 25 minutes to complete so if you love a quick DIY, this ones for you.

Even though I used black and orange ribbon, you could use any color combo to work with your fall or Halloween decor.

Supply List:

Assorted Halloween themed ribbons in widths ranging from 5/8″ to 1 1/2″ w. Click here for a list of the ribbons I used for this project.

Craft pumpkins in different sizes–I purchased mine at Michaels

Paper Mache Witches Hat

Black Acrylic Craft Paint  ( and a paint brush of course)

Ad Tech Removeable Glue Tape {affiliate link}

Starting with my largest pumpkin, I cut 18 pieces of ribbon at different lengths with the longest piece about 1 1/2″ from the bottom of the pumpkin. I cut 16 pieces of ribbon for the smaller pumpkins and layered some of the ribbon pieces for added dimension.  Then I attached the ribbon to each pumpkin, at the base of the stem.

To add a little something extra, I made small bows and attached them to the stems of the smaller pumpkins.  And for the larger pumpkin, I painted the witches hat black and added ribbon around the brim.

These cute pumpkins are perfect to accessorize a console table or use as a centerpiece on your dining table.

This cute black and white table runner was on $5.99 from Ikea.  Buy two and sew them together if you need a longer length.

So what do you think, aren’t these DIY Halloween Ribbon Pumpkins pretty Spootacular?

Gift Wrap Inspiration: Tassel Ribbon Tie

Mother's Day Gift Wrap by ConfettiStyle

With Mother’s Day just a few weeks away, you may have gift giving on your mind.  If you’re looking for the perfect gift, be sure to check out my Mother’s Day Gift Guide.  Once you’ve purchased a gift you’ll need to wrap it so I’ve got a fun and easy gift wrap idea for you today.

DIY GIFT WRAP: Tassel Ribbon Tie

Wrapping gifts is one of my favorite things to do and because I’m a paper and ribbon collector {aka-hoarder} I’ve got a stash of pretty paper and embellishments perfect for the occasion.

Mother's Day Gift Wrap by ConfettiStyle

I’m always drawn to floral motifs when it comes to Mother’s Day gift wrap so I chose this pretty orange and pink floral blossom paper.  I love the bold design and the accent of apple green in the background pattern.

Similar Floral Gift Wrap // Similar Faux Leather Tassels // Orange Ribbon

Wanting to put a different spin on the bow, I decided to create a tassel tie using white faux leather tassels that I had.

You won’t believe where these tassel came from.  They originally started out as tassel garland from the Nate Berkus collection at Target.  I scored several sets of the garland in white and black on clearance for less than $3!

When I purchased the garland I had the idea of making necklaces but also knew the tassels would make a great gift wrap embellishment.

Mother's Day Gift Wrap by ConfettiStyle
Making the tassel tie was super easy.  I measured a length of ribbon long enough to fit around the box and tie and simple bow. Then I tied a tassel on to each end.  Once the box was wrapped, I used the tassel tie like a regular ribbon to embellish the gifts.

One of the best parts of creative gift wrapping is using items in new ways.  These tassels were meant for home decor but make the perfect finishing touch for a gift.

The next time you shop the clearance aisle at your favorite store, be on the look-out for trinkets and charms you can use when wrapping gifts.

Things I Love: French Ribbon

Amy Butler for Renaissance Ribbons

Amy Butler

If I won the lottery, one of my splurges would be to buy hundreds and maybe even thousands of dollars of beautiful ribbon.  I adore ribbon especially if it’s intricately designed and beautifully woven.

I have several go-to shopping sources for ribbon including this one and this one , but I am thrilled to have just uncovered what might be the holy grail of beautiful French ribbon.

Renaissance Ribbons was started by Edith Minne whose love affair for French ribbon started over 20 years ago.  She turned her passion into a thriving business and today the company designs, creates and supplies their goods to thousands of wholesale companies worldwide and employs 18 designers who create their patterns.

The collection of styles available from Renaissance is vast, each one just as beautiful as the next.

Gift Wrap Inspiration: Washi Tape Ribbon

Washi Tape Gift Wrap by ConfettiStyle5

Over the weekend I shared a photo on Instagram of items I’m sending in a care package to a good friend.  As I do with all the gifts I give, I wanted to created a special wrap for the gift.

I looked through my wrapping paper stash but didn’t see anything I wanted to use so out came the washi tape and in no time flat I had my box wrapped.

I’ve professed my love of washi tape on the blog before but I have to tell you again, it is one of the best crafting supplies you can own.

The beauty of washi tape is that it can be used in so many different ways and it’s perfect for gift wrapping.  To keep things simple, I used the tape instead of ribbon and layered different patterns together to fancy up the box a bit.

I also made a cute gift tag accented with washi tape.  I folded lengths of washi tape together to create flags and then angle cut the ends.  Using double-sided tape, I attached the washi flags to the gift tap and finished it off with a silk flower.

p.s.  the white gift box was part of a box set I purchased from Michael’s.  I love that the lids and bottom are separate and that the boxes are thick and sturdy.  There are 4 different size boxes in the set and they are on clearance right now at 70% off, so the set only cost me $2.99, less a 20% coupon I had.

Gift Wrap Inspiration: A New Way to Add Ribbon

 Gift Wrap Inspiration by ConfettiStyle4

It all started with a trip to The Container Store to pick up some shipping boxes…

Everytime I go into The Container Store I have something specific I’m planning to buy.  But that always changes once I’m inside the doors.  I get sucked in by all the beautiful containers, jars, boxes and wrapping, and my imagination starts to go wild.  It never fails that I come home with a few items that weren’t on the shopping list.
