Apothecary Jar

Apothecary Jars got their claim to fame back in the day on the shelves of doctor’s offices and in drugstores where they held medicines and health products.  They were looked as a purely a fictional item that held precious contents that people needed to live and survive.

I don’t know what it is about a new year that makes us all want to declutter and organize our homes.  As part of this yearly ritual, I’m always on the hunt for easy storage solutions and one of my go-to shopping sources is always Ikea.

Every time I shop Ikea I ponder purchasing the Raskog Utility Cart.  This cute little storage cart is just one of those pieces that you can image using in a thousand different ways around the house  And the $29.99 price point makes it even more attractive.

To convince myself and maybe you too, I’ve rounded up some photos showing different ways this storage cart can be styled.

CREATIVE IDEAS USING THE RASKOG UTILITY STORAGE CART

When space is tight, the Raskog cart makes an ideal side table and the three storage shelves can hold an array of items for quick access.

I have always been a fan of clocks when it comes to decor for the home. I love clocks of all sizes but over the last few years I’ve seen the trend of larger clocks growing. Clocks like this Howard Miller Postema Gallery Wall Clock which measures 49 inches in diameter is not only unique but it is a great way to make a bold statement with your decor.

Product + Inspiration: Blue and White Ginger Jars

Ginger Jars---William Sonoma Home

via william sonoma home

Good design is timeless and a perfect example of that is the blue and white ginger jars.  Ginger jars are identified by their high-shoulders, rounded shapes, small mouths, and domed lids that often continue the piece’s exterior decoration all the way up to the finial. Ginger jars were initially used to store and transport spices, hence their name, but since the 19th century they have been used chiefly as decorative objects.

Although the patterns, styles and colors available in ginger jars is limitless, the classic blue and white ginger jar has become the most mainstream of the styles.  These days you can find ginger jars at flea markets, thrift shops and even big box discount stores like Ross.  This beautiful blue and white lidded temple jar is just one of several styles available from William Sonoma Home.

Product + Inspiration: Amir Fabric

Amir 4

Before I sign off for the weekend I wanted to bring you a new Product + Inspiration Post.  Instead of showcasing an actual product I decided to share some fabric inspiration with you.

One of my favorite fabrics is a modern interpretation of a chevron print called Amir.  The pattern is more relaxed than a traditional chevron print and has a bit of an animal print feel.

Amir is a 100% linen fabric which makes it ideal for drapery and upholstery and at $29.98 a yard it’s very affordable.

colors clockwise:  Harissa, Azur, Cumin, Meadow

When made into pillows, the pattern scale mixes perfectly with floral prints and smaller repeat prints.

Amir 2

I also love this fabric as chair upholstery.

And here’s a little inspiration using Amir in curtain panels.

Amir 3

Lewis and Sheron, one of Atlanta’s premier fabric stores carries the Amir in four different colorways and also has the fabric available for online ordering.  And with all the other fabulous fabrics they carry, it’s easy to pull together a fabric plan for any room in your home.

Here’s a little inspiration board I created for a master bedroom inspired by Amir Azur…

Amir Met:  duvet cover  /  Floral 156:  drapery fabric
Gere River:  accent chair and bed pillows /  DNA Atlantic:  chair pillow and bed pillows
Ball Trim: duvet trim /  Braided Trim:  drapery trim

Sometimes all it takes is one fabric to inspire a room design.

Cheers to the weekend and I’ll see you back here Monday!
