Gift Wrap Inspiration: Blue, Yellow & Silver Wedding Wrap

Hi friends.  I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend.  I sure did!

I’m back today with another gift wrap inspiration post for you.  Over the years I’ve shared wrapping ideas for birthdays, mother’s day, Valentine’s day and other special occasions but never for a wedding.  Today I’m sharing inspiration for a wedding along with a few wedding specific gift wrapping tips. Enjoy!

Blue & White Wedding Gift Wrap by ConfettiStyle

The past couple of years we have not attended many weddings but this year is different.  We have several weddings between now and August and that means some fun gift wrapping for me.

When I wrap wedding gifts I like to use paper, ribbon and embellishments that coordinate with the colors for the wedding.  It’s such an easy way to make the gift even more special.

The hubs and I will be attending a family wedding this weekend where the colors are blue, yellow and silver.   The color combination is perfect for a summer wedding and it provided great inspiration for wrapping our gift.

Wedding Gift Wrap Inspiration:  Blue, Yellow & Silver

Since our gift is in a large box, I used a wrapping paper with a bold pattern.  The blue and white lattice design is perfect for a wedding and the pattern is feminine without being too girly.

tip:  buy wrapping paper that can work for more than one occasion and then use embellishments to make the wrapping formal or casual, depending on the event

Once the box was wrapped, I tried a wide white grosgrain ribbon around it and then layered a navy silk ribbon on top.  I cut the navy ribbon long enough so I could tie multiple bows on top.

To add in the yellow color, I created a flower bouquet for the top of the box using silk flowers I picked up at the Dollar Store.

The final touch was a silver glitter gift tag that I dressed up with yellow and navy fabric flowers from the craft store.

Using different styles of flowers added interest and gave the top of the box a personalized feel.

It’s wedding season so if you’ll be wrapping wedding gifts, keep these tips in mind…

GIFT WRAPPING TIPS FOR WEDDING GIFTS

  1. If you don’t want to coordinate your gift wrap with the wedding colors, it’s always classic to use white or silver wrapping paper.
  2. Always attach a gift tap or card securely to your gift.  Or better yet, place the card inside the box and attach a tag with the couples name on it to the outside of the box.
  3. If you’re planning on giving an envelope containing money or gift cards, put those items in an envelope and wrap a ribbon around it.  A ribbon will signify that the envelope it is a gift so it doesn’t get missed or tossed out.
  4. Embellishments are a fun way to accent your gift wrap and make your gift extra special.  My favorite gift embellishments include silk flowers, oversized monogram letters and crystal beads.

Design Inspiration: The Chaise Lounge

source

DESIGN INSPIRATION:  THE CHAISE LOUNGE

The term ‘chaise lounge’ refers to a long reclining chair whose roots date back to Egypt.  Back then, the chaise lounge was looked at as a mix between a chair and a daybed.  Today, it is viewed as a long chair and is used in decor as an alternative to a traditional chair or sofa.

Over the years I’ve been a bit indifferent to chaise lounges mostly because the only styles available were the Victorian designs. I don’t have anything against Victorian designs but this style of chaise can feel stagnate and old if it hasn’t been updated with fabric.

In the last 10 years, the look of chaise lounges have evolved and the designs are sleek and modern with a traditional undertone.  And when it comes to decorating with a chaise, there is so much inspiration out there.

♦♦♦

I love the idea of using two chaise lounges to create a relaxing sitting area especially if you have a view that can be enjoyed from the perch.

source

In a sunroom or covered outdoor space, a chaise lounge (or two) creates a more relaxing retreat than a sofa might.

source

A chaise is a great option for a reading nook and can nestle into a corner but still feel connected to the room.

source

In an oversized bathroom, a chaise adds the ultimate touch of luxury and glamour especially when upholstered in a luxurious velvet fabric.

source

My friend Erika of Erika Ward Interiors used two chaise lounges in a master bedroom sitting area.  This type of seating is perfect for creating cozy space to relax or for that Saturday afternoon nap.

source

I love a backless chaise as added seating in a living room.  Because the design is open on both sides, this style is a great filler piece in large rooms.

source

source

In smaller rooms that don’t get use often, two chaise lounges can be a unique seating option.

Style At Home

What to put at the foot of a bed? is a question I get a lot.  A chaise lounge is something I often recommend because they add style and a functional to a bedroom.

Inspired?  Now let’s go shopping..

My Favorite Chaise Lounge Chairs

#1–The Alton Roll Arm Chaise from Pier 1 is a modern take on a one arm chaise.  I love the squared off back and the grey velvet fabric.  This item is on clearance for $429.98 so you’ll need to act fast to snag it.

#2-Crate and Barrel has several chaise lounge styles but the Montclair Chaise is my favorite.  The design is clean and simple and there are a multitude of fabric options so you can customize the look for your home-$1299.00.  For a more masculine space, check out the Garbo Leather Chaise.

#3–The Iris Chaise Lounge from Joss and Main has beautiful lines and the tufted back gives it a classic touch.  I can envision this space as part of a library or it a ladies lounge.  $464.99

#4–Another great option from Joss and Main is the Kiera Tufted Chaise.  This piece has a smaller scale making it ideal for a small room or corner sitting area.  $659.99

#5–The Carlisle Upholstered Chaise from Pottery Barn would look great in a sitting area off a bedroom or in a bathroom.  The rolled arms and tailored profile along with over 50 fabric options are just some of the reasons why I love this piece.  $1449 to $2649 depending on fabric.

#6–If you’re looking for a budget friendly option, the Kivik Chaise from Ikea is an option.  At only $350 this piece has a removable cover which will make cleaning easy.  And if you want to change the look down the road, the Kivik is a great candidate for a custom slip-cover.

Inspiration Notebook | May 2017

You might have noticed that I didn’t share my inspiration notebook with you last month.  Last month was a blur and I just didn’t have time to pull it together.  Things are still crazy busy but I did manage to log an insert in my inspiration notebook this month.  I enjoy taking the time to pull these pages together and recognize the things around me that provide inspiration.

When I looked at the calendar the other day, I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that it is May.  We’re almost half way through the year and I’m already exhausted just thinking about everything thing I want to accomplish before the year ends.  While I can’t control the future, I can enjoy today so the pages in my notebook for May are filled with things I’m enjoying on a daily basis.  Here’s a look at what’s inspiring me in work, home and my personal life.  Enjoy!

DESIGNING:  I’m hoping that a new design client I’m working with will love this Gabby Clay Chandelier as much as I do.  It’s the inspiration for the entire dining room.

READING:  I couldn’t wait to find dive into this gorgeous entertaining book, Veranda Entertaining.  It was everything I expected and more–beautiful images, inspiring ideas and drool worthy tablescapes.  One of my top 10 design books ever!

RELAXING:  I haven’t been sleeping well lately so I’m trying to make sure I spend time winding down at the end of the day.  The Nest Blue Garden Candle is my go-to spring candle scent that helps me to relax and unwind.

INSPIRED BY:  I’ve been seeing lots of floral arrangements in old wood boxes popping up on Pinterest.  I love the look for a spring and summer tablescape.

LISTENING:  Most days when I’m at my desk working I have jazz music or a podcast playing.  The Clever Podcasts are a favorite and every episode has great takeaways for career and life.

CRAFTING:  I love crafting and recently I’ve been drawn back to jewelry making in my spare time.   One of my new sources for unique chain/hardware is my local lighting store for chandelier chain.

SHOPPING: We’ve got a cruise planned for early September and I’ve already started shopping for a dress to wear on formal night. I’m channeling my inner Carolina Herrera and thinking of pairing a crisp white shirt with this Red Floral Ball Skirt or this Black Floral Ball Skirt.  Which would you choose??

LOVING:  Just when I thought BaubleBar had it all they come out with these super cute Caicos Pom Pom Earrings.

CRAVING: Now that fruit season is here, I’m loving my morning meal–yogurt and fruit parfait. My ingredients include plain vanilla yogurt, granola, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries.  Yum!

Gift Wrap Inspiration: DIY Paper Gift Bags Using Wrapping Paper

DIY Gift Bags Using Wrapping Paper by ConfettiStyle

If you know me, you know that I’d rather make my own gift bags versus buy them at the store.  Handcrafted gift bags are easier to make than you might think and you probably already have the supplies on hand.

For my latest gift wrap project, I made some spring inspired gift bags using wrapping paper, ribbon and craft bags from Paper Mart.  I created a variety of sizes and decorated each one differently to show you how easy it is to customize handmade gift bags.  And I created a how-to guide that you can download (link at end of the post).

DIY GIFT BAGS

Blue/Blue Striped Wrapping Paper // ‘Periwinkle’ Floral Wrapping Paper // Mini Chevron Bags

You can see that I made different styles of ribbon handles for each bag.  My favorite is the braided handle on the large striped bag.

To create the braid,  I cut three equal lengths of ribbon and braided them together. Once the ends were inserted through the holes at the top of the bag, I tied them in a knot to secure the ends.

DIY Gift Bags Using Wrapping Paper by ConfettiStyle

On the large floral bag below, I punched holes on the corners and in the center and tied ribbons through the holes. I used white hole reinforcements to protect the holes from tearing.

tip: Everyday office supplies can make great gift wrap embellishments.

The mini chevron bags I taped to  the front of my gift bags holds a kraft gift tag.  The bags would also be great to hold sweet treats with an Easter gift.

Paper Mart sells the chevron bags in three sizes and 8 colors and I love using them in gift wrap projects.

DIY Inspiration: Project Footstools {the Inspiration}

A several weeks ago I came across this pair of round footstools at one of my favorite flea markets and snapped them up.  Despite the fabric being hideous the bones of the ottomans were in good shape and I knew they would make for a great DIY transformation. Plus I couldn’t pass up the $11 price tag.  #thriftscore

Footstools-- DIY Project

My initial vision is to recover the pair in velvet, maybe a pretty emerald green or deep navy.  I want a fabric and look that is going to be long-lasting and classic and either of these colors would give me that.  I’m also planning to keep the top button tuft detail which I think gives the stools added character.

Footstool Inspiration

 via

This online store has great prices on solid colored velvet by the yard. And I love this quilted velvet.

Footstool Inspiration

via

After considering velvet for a couple of weeks I went on the search for more inspiration and stumbled upon these images.

This pair of stools is covered in mustard colored leather with a nailhead trim.  I like the color but the nail heads are a bit much for me.

Footstool Inspiration

via

These seafoam colored stools are really pretty but I’m not a pastel girl when it comes to decor and I definitely don’t have time to do all that tufting on the top.

Footstool Inspiration
via

I love , love Chartreuse as a color and really adore the way it looks on this footstool.   The styling of this ottoman is almost identical to mine except the ones I have don’t have feet which I’m now considering after seeing this piece.

Chartreuse is one of those colors that people tend to steer away from but it is a great accent color that mixes well with neutrals and with black.

Footstool Inspiration

via

Hum…maybe I should consider a Mongolian lambs fur?  I love the look but I can just hear my hubby talking about how impractical they would be.  My response…sometimes pretty trumps practical.

Footstool Inspiration

via

Just when I was set on a solid color I saw this velvet beauty!  I love the idea of two different patterns and am thinking maybe I could find some vintage fabric at the Roundtop Antiques Market.  I also found this source for embroidered velvet fabric.

Footstool Inspiration

via

Speaking of patterns, a beautiful Kilim or woven leather rug could be a fun way to upholster my footstools. In looking at rug options, I think this idea might cost more than I want to spend.

Footstool Inspiration

via

If all else fails, I could also cover them in an animal print which is classic, timeless and versatile.

Footstool Inspiration

via

I’m not sure which direction I’m going to go with the fabric but I’ll be sure to keep you posted. In the meantime, I’ve got a couple other DIY stools that are sitting in the garage waiting for their makeover.

If these footstools were yours, which fabric and color would you go with?
