Daily Dose of Design–Inviting Foyers

The first impression of your home is often set by the foyer.

Whether you have a defined foyer space or have to create one, your foyer should showcase your design style and decorative personality, as well as providing a functional space within your home.

Here are a few foyer spaces that are both Functional and Fashionable.

This small foyer niche looks larger than life with the addition of an oversized mirror and wall paper that visually extends the boundaries of the space.

The lower shelf unit, turned bench, provides stylish storage and gives the space personality.

Upholstered ottomans tucked under this foyer table add an element of softness to the space.

A vertically hung mirror, flanked by artwork groupings carry the eye up and make the space appear larger than it really is.

The tabletop accessories give you a sneak peek of the decorative style within the home.

If you need a place to drop the keys and mail, or a place to sit a spell, this foyer has it all.

I love how the large mirror and console are offset with the low slipper chairs and single wall sconce.

A true style statement that makes you feel welcome and at home.

Thing long hallway was turned into a stylish foyer with the addition of a long wall shelf and art grouping.

The shelf provides the function while the wall decor conveys the sense of style.

When decorating your foyer, give it a reason for being and make it pretty while you are at it!

Stripes Make Me Happy!

Have you noticed that stripes are everywhere?

From  Spring fashions….

these knit wrapped trees in Houston, Texas.  Aren’t these just incredible!  Check out the mission behind this trees, here.

And of course, stripes are one of the most stylish ways to add punch to your decor.  Here are a few of my favorite stripe infused spaces.

I love the mix of different stripe widths in this room.  So modern and fresh!

These chair covers are adorable.

The combination of vertical and horizontal stripes give this area lots of visual interest.  A great technique for a large accent wall!

I wonder what’s behind the  pink door?

This chair looks like it would be great for a springtime nap!

Cheerful accessories bring so much life to a room.

Classic!

If you need to infuse a bit of energy into your home, consider stripes!

Cheers!

Are You A Matchbook Girl?

If you’re not sure how to answer that question, then you haven’t checked out the online lifestyle magazine Matchbook

In January, I flipped through the first issue of the magazine and liked what I saw, but their second issue, which just went live, is FABULOUS!

There are so many great articles, I don’t know which to tell you to check out first.

I really loved the article on fashion icon Diana Vreeland, and especially enjoyed the piece on Sausalito artist Woody Biggs.  He creates some of the most outstanding vintage paper collages I’ve ever seen (below).

And, make sure to check out the listing of 50 Classic Accessories For Your Home.  I am happy to say I own one of the items on the list (Sunburst Mirror from Wisteria).

And then check out……Ok, I’m gonna let you go so you can scurry over to Matchbook and read the 2nd issue from cover to cover.

Let me know what articles you like and if you are a Matchbook girl.  I definitely know I am!

Happy Friday and happy reading.

Happy Feet!

With the string of almost 70 degree days we’ve had here in Atlanta, (ok, so it’s only been about 3 days), me and my happy feet decided to take a trip to one of my favorite places, DSW Shoe Warehouse.

I don’t know what it is about that place, but seeing endless rows of shoes is so comforting to my soul.  And, the thrill of the hunt that hits you when you enter their doors is just so exciting.

As I walked the aisles, I was excited to see that the gladiator sandal look was out, and that chunky heels, wedge sandals and bright colors are in for Spring.

As someone who is pushing 5″ 3″ tall, I am all for a shoe that will give me a boost and make me look “so much” taller.

Here are some of the looks I am coveting for Spring:

I love the turquoise color of these wedge sandals and how great they will look with a white outfit.

A bit feisty to wear with a cute dress!

Totally too high to wear as an everyday shoe, but these are so my colors!

I so love this shoe. I’d wear them with a pair of wide leg jeans, a simple tee and lots of bold jewelry.

A classic that would go with just about anything.

After spending over an hour at DSW, I immediately left there and headed to a nail salon where I got a long overdue pedicure.  Now, I am ready for Spring and can’t wait to wear my new spring  sandals.

Aerosole Peep-toe Sandal–cute and comfy!

What style of shoe are you looking forward wo wearing this Spring?

Hot Commodity…Chevron Prints

Long before the Nate Berkus show I loved the look of Chevron Prints.  Now that I watch Nate daily (via dvr), I’ve developed a mad obsession with the pattern.

There is something so refreshingly modern and hip about chevron prints, yet I can easily envision them incorporated into a more traditional room environment.

The Dhurrie Rug that adorns Nate’s TV set is was part of his custom product line for HSN.  Unfortunately the rug sold out, and is no longer available.

But, I did surface up a great option available for purchase from West Elm.

If you need a little more inspiration, before jumping on the Chevron Print band-wagon, check out these inspiring images!

I love the visual movement a chevron print adds to a space.  This pattern is great to use in a small room, keeping the eye moving and making the space feel larger.

As an accent rug, chevron prints are a wonderful alternative to an all over pattern.

Chevron or zig zag prints as they are also known, are wonderful on furniture and accessories.

If you’re the crafty type and want to save a bit of money on a chevron print rug, here’s a great tutorial by Carissa who writes the lovely blog, The Fabulous Design File.  Check it out here.

I feel a Chevron Print in my future.  Maybe a decorative tray?

Are  you loving Chevron prints as much as me?

70 degrees and thinking about Fall

It’s 70 degrees outside today in Atlanta, but Fall is on the minds of  fashion designers all around the world.

New York Fashion week has taken place this week, with designers showcasing their Fall 2011 looks.  I’ve scoured the design sites, reviewed the designers look books and have found a few looks, from some of my favorite designers, that point to Fall 2011 being about glamour, classic styling, modern details and pure luxury.

Ralph Lauren’s fur jacket and pinstripe pants…nobody does classic like Ralph!

Carolina Herrera’s retro inspired suit, done  in power red!

Michael Kors’ take on the color camel.

Donna Karan makes it look do easy.  I love the head to toe grey and the loose but structured silhouette. So glam!

A few things every girl should own…classic white shirts, black pants and a pair of red shoes!  Simple elegance.

Carolina Herrera makes this pencil skirt look so fresh in turquoise!

Mens wear inspired suiting was all over the runways.  Ralph Lauren added a bit of shine to give this tailored suit a bit more femininity.

Shiny finishes appeared in just about every designers line.  Here’s Carolina Herrera’s trench in russet red, with billowy sleeves.

Asian inspiration appears to be a big statement for fall.  Ralph Lauren adds style to a classic double-breasted jacket via an asian print.

Fall is months away, but the looks coming down the runway this week have already got me thinking about building my fall wardrobe.

Happy Friday!

When One Door Closes…

Another One Opens!

Sorry I’ve been missing in action for the last week or so.  I had a big change going on in my life…we decided to close our retail store, The Scarlet Tassel after 8 years in business.  Don’t be sad, because while I’m crossing “owning my own store” off my bucket list, some exciting new doors are opening in my life.

I will be launching my new business, ConfettiStyle, next month and am so excited about all that lies ahead.  ConfettiStyle will encompass several different business entities, most notably my independent Interior Design, Re-design and Special Occasion Decorating business.

In addition to helping clients create beautiful living spaces, I will also be launching a design education series under the ConfettiStyle umbrella.  For the past 7 years, I’ve conducted quarterly design workshops in the store, and love teaching people the in’s and out’s of design, entertaining & gifting.  I am so excited to grow this element of my business into something grand. Stay tuned for the when and where!

Another piece of the ConfettiStyle puzzle will be my Etsy shop where I’ll have some of my hand-made pieces available for sale.  I’ll let you know when the shop is up and running.

One of my multi-strand glass bead necklaces!

Also under the ConfettiStyle umbrella will be my blog of the same name.  I launched ConfettiStyle, the blog, about a year ago and have fallen in love with the world of blogging.  I am still learning a lot but have so many plans to take my blog to the next level.

Stay tuned for a new blog look, and lots of great content including several fun new series such as:

  • Daily Inspiration–Each day I’ll be bringing you an amazing piece of design.  It may be a fabulous room, a design tip, or a wonderful piece of art.  What ever it is, I’ll share it with you and tell you why it inspires me.
  • Stylist For a Day–How would I dress Oprah or Kate Hudson if I had the chance?  I’ll show you how I’d dress some of the well-knowns in this fun series about fashion and personal style.
  • Made By Hand–I’ll showcase great DIY and craft projects that will inspire you to pull out the paint and hot-glue gun.
  • What I Bought–I come across some incredible deals when I’m out on my shopping excursions or surfing the web,  and I’ll be sharing my finds with you.  I’ll also highlight some great shopping destinations, near and far.
  • Tabletop Stylings–I love beautiful tabletop decor, so I’ll be showing you lots of ways to dress your table with style.
  • Words To Inspire–I started this series when I began writing my blog and will continue to share some of my favorite quotes that inspire me to live my best life.

While many people don’t like change, I am one of those people who looks change in the face, embraces it, and believes….

Nobody Can Go Back and Start a New Beginning, but Anyone Can start TODAY and Make a NEW ENDING!

I hope you’ll join me on this ride, as I unfold a new chapter of my life!

Blessings and Joy today and always!
