What to Get Mom for Mother’s Day?

Greetings!  I hope you had a great weekend!  My weekend started off awesome and ended the same way so I have nothing to complain about.  The sunny skies and warm weather were an added bonus.

Did you get out and do any shopping this weekend? Maybe looking for a Mother’s Day gift like me?

If you were out and about you probably noticed that a lot of stores have spring sales going on now. It’s a great time to pick up spring fashion accessories, home décor accents and spring footwear.

If you follow me on Instagram (which I hope you do), you saw that I mentioned the buy one, get one 50% off accessory sale at Target. There are some really great pieces that would make fab Mother’s Day gifts.

How about a pretty scarf for mom ($14.99)…

or maybe a summer tote bag ($34.99)!

I spotted several scarves and summer totes I wanted for myself but after getting the “not another handbag” look from the hubs I decided a trip on my own was in order so I’m heading back today to do some more looking.

Another store I popped into over the weekend was C. Wonder.  You all know I love that store!  They have their additional 50% off sale going on now and if you or your mom loves monograms you don’t want to miss this.

This monogram iPhone case is $24.99 less 50% and every letter is a different color combo.  I couldn’t pass up the ‘S’ since it was my favorite color combo–red, white and gold.

I know my mom would love a monogrammed mug paired with her favorite tea.  The mug is $7.99 less 50%. You can’t beat that and it’s never to early to start thinking about Christmas gifts too!

This monogram pillow cover is gorgeous in person and I wish I would have found an M but no go.  $29.99 less 50%.

If you’ve wanted one of the classic C Wonder nylon totes, now is the time to snag one on sale.  Not all the sizes are on sale but the mini and Easy tote sizes are.  Mini–$44.99 and the Easy tote is $59.99 less 50%.  You can also get the bag monogrammed for an extra $10. What mom wouldn’t love this?

If your mom loves to entertain, she’ll love these fun herringbone coasters Set of 4 for $34.99 less 50%.

11 Design Details I’m Loving & that you can do in your own home

Slide1

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, Design is in the Details.  And that’s one of the things I love about design.  The fact that you can take a basic ordinary architectural element, accessory, furniture piece or decorative element and use it to create something unique and beautiful for your home.  I’m working on a project that is requiring me to think about details and how they can be used to transform a space and save money at the same time.  With details on my mind I thought I’d share 11 of my favorite ideas, ideas you can use in your own home.

The Right Way to Do Monograms

Ever since moving to the south in 2000 I’ve developed an obsession for monograms.  I’ll never be one of those people who has a monogrammed car decal or a full set of luggage with a monogram (unless of course it’s a full set of Louis Vuitton)  but I do love monograms for linens, personal items, decorative accessories and some furniture.

Gift Wrap Inspiration: Easy Monogram Ribbon

I love a gift wrap idea that’s easy to execute and results in a stylish gift.  I’ve worked a lot with monograms lately on design projects and in my home, and that got me thinking about an easy and simple way to tie monograms in with gift wrapping.  The idea was easy to come up with and the execution is even easier.

If you’ve been in a craft store lately you know that there are all types of alphabet stickers you can choose from.  For a kid’s gift use stickers that are colorful like crayons, for a men’s gift go with a more block type front and if your gift is going to a woman go with stickers that are more feminine and scrolled.

I hope this inspires you to take a visit to the craft store and get creative with your gift wrapping using stickers.

Let’s Get Crafty–Monogrammed Serving Tray

When I’m not working on design projects, I love to keep myself  busy creating hand-made items.

As one of the design team members for May Arts Ribbon, I create projects showcasing their incredible array of ribbons.  While I love using ribbon to create beautiful gift tags and inspirational pieces, creating home-decor items is what I love to do most.

One of my latest projects was a Monogrammed Serving Tray, made as a special gift for a  soon-to-be married couple.  I love giving personalized gifts as wedding presents, and this tray fit the bill perfectly.

Here’s what the finished item looked like.

I had lots of fun creating the tray and thought I’d share the how-to’s with you.

You’ll need the following supplies:

  • Rectangular picture frame with an interior mat.  The mat for my frame had three photo spaces which were framed with a beveled wood edge.  Not only is the detail great but it elevates the glass a bit and adds dimension.
  • May Arts RibbonSX44, WX15, WA46, SX01
  • Decorative Drawer Pulls (I picked mine up at Hobby Lobby for $2.99)
  • Decorative Scrapbook Paper
  • Glue Arts Adhesive Tape
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

Step 1:  Remove the glass and mat from the frame.

Step 2:  Determine the placement of the ribbon around the mat.  I decided to run lengths of my ribbon along the surface of the mat, creating a criss-cross pattern in several places to give it some added style.

Once the ribbon placement was determined,  I cut my ribbon to the desired length, and glued the pieces in place.  It’s best to secure the ribbon ends with hot glue gun and the body of the ribbon with your Glue Arts adhesive .

Step 3:  Select a decorative paper that coordinates with your ribbon.  You’ll be using it as the backdrop of each photo box.  I choose a blue striped paper, in a slightly darker blue than my ribbon.

Now, measure and cut your paper to fit each photo window.  Run your Glue Arts Adhesive around the back side of the mat opening and position your decorative paper in place.

Here’s what the tray looks like with the paper in place.

Step 4:  Now it’s time to create the monograms within each photo window.

With a pencil, lighting draw out the initials onto the decorate paper of each photo box.  The first box will be the first initial of the bride. The middle box will the couples last initial, and the third box will be the grooms’ first initial.

Starting with the first photo box, run a narrow bead of hot glue along the initial outline you drew.  Starting at one edge of your letter, scrunch and glue your ribbon along your glue line.  Scrunching the ribbon creates a soft ruffle effect.  Repeat the same process with the other two initials.

Step 5:  Next, measure where your handles will be positioned and screw them into place.  A big thanks to my hubby for handling the power tools for this project.

Finally,  assemble the mat and glass into your frame and you’re all done!

Turned out great if  I say so myself.  If you haven’t checked out the wonderful ribbon that May Arts offers, hop on over to their site and take a look.  And while you’re there, spend a little time on their blog to see more fabulous projects inspired by May Arts ribbon!

DIY Spring Picture Frame Wreath

DIY Spring Picture Frame Wreath by ConfettiStyle

Hooray for Spring!  I’m so happy to usher in a new season that brings with it sunny skis and warmer temps.

To celebrate springs arrival, I decided to make a beautiful wreath to hang on my front door.  This wreath is my latest project as part of the design team for The Ribbon Roll ribbon company.  You can shop all their amazing ribbon here and find more ribbon projects on their blog.

Ok, let’s get this project underway.  Just like I did for my Christmas wreath, I  used a non-traditional base for this wreath–a rectangular picture frame.  And here’s my supply list…

DIY Spring Picture Frame Wreath by ConfettiStyle

Supply List:

  • Rectangular Picture Frame–I bought my frame at Hobby Lobby on clearance for $4.00.
  • Burlap Colored Wired Edge (item # CBBCM-BBB-AJF)
  • Pink and Orange Plaid Wired Edge Ribbon (item # BEGE-JW-HEE-JIK)
  • Fuchsia Dot Delight Wired Edge (item #BEGDHW-BBB-JIK)
  • Faux Flowers—you’ll need one or two bunches with 4 to 6 flowers on each.
  • Faux Greenery—one bunch of leaves works great for this project.  Pick a leaf variety that works with your flowers.
  • Wood Welcome Sign
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue
  • Scissors or Garden Clippers
  • Burlap Twine
  • Craft paint or wood stain (optional)

Before I started assembling  the wreath, I prepared all of the components that I will be adding to the frame.

Prep The Supplies:

  1. Pull the flower heads off the bundle so there was just a tiny stub at the base of each flower.
  2. Pull the leaf bunch apart creating a handful of small leaf clusters.
  3. Cut a length of burlap ribbon 20” long and use twine to pinch it together every 5 inches.  The pinched sections are where the ribbon will be glued to the frame.
  4. Cut (10) 6″ pieces of each patterned ribbon. You’ll loop these and add to your wreath.
  5. Stain or paint the WELCOME sign.

Once you have all of your components ready, it will take you about 30 minutes to make the wreath.

Step 1: Attach the burlap ribbon to the frame in a random, zig zag pattern. Glue the pinched points to the frame using the hot glue gun and then pull the ribbon up to create peaks.  You can cover your entire frame with ribbon or just two corners like I did.

Step 2:  Glue a couple of leaf pieces at each pinch point and then add a flower on top of the leaves.

tip:  make sure to position your leaves and flowers going different directions along the frame so it has a natural feel.

Step 3:  Once the ribbon, leaves and flowers are attached, glue the Welcome sign in the center of the frame.  My sign fit perfectly from edge to edge on my frame.

And that’s it!   Now all you have to do is hang the wreath on your door and enjoy the season.
